VOLCUS

Volcus was an Independent Core System Colonies planet located in the Heske 337 System of the Core Systems' New Eden Sector. Though it was an uninhabitable volcanic wasteland, Volcus served as a lucrative source of geothermal power for the ICSC.

History

Initially a member world of the Central Space Consortium and later the Independent Core System Colonies, Volcus was purportedly a recently–formed planet in the cooling phase of its development. However, rumors abounded that Volcus had been subjected to the "Giffy Popped" process, a type of terraforming pioneered by scientist Edmund C. Giff in which celestial bodies were smashed into each other to access subterranean resources; a moon had allegedly been used to strike Volcus. Either way, the surface of Volcus was a landscape of magma, sulfur, and hot gases. A series of automated power stations located on the planet’s magma seas drew in geothermal energy and transmitted it to the local V-23 orbital collector and relay station; the energy was funneled to the Web colony on Volcus' moon Etna, where it was transferred to high output power cells and exported throughout the ICSC.

Climate and terrain

Though it was classed as a terrestrial planet, the atmosphere on Volcus was corrosive and wracked by ash and pyroclastic lava flows, with temperatures averaging 400°C. The local terrain consisted of magma seas and volcanic islands.

Economy

Volcus' key resources included geothermal energy, bauxite, gold, diamonds, and assorted base and rare earth metals.
