Bork Bork Olenork
Born to an isolated tribe of Lizardfolk, Bork-Bork was named by the tribe Seer who predicted that he would be small and (in terms of typical lizard physical prowess) insignificant. Having no siblings, Bork was the recipient of a great deal of affection and care from his mother, who always doted on him, and his father who told him that he knew Bork was destined to do something great.
Unfortunately that time was cut short, because the tribe has a tradition that the elders, upon reaching a designated age, are ceremoniously given up to be consumed by chosen juveniles that were entering adulthood. The belief being that by consuming the flesh of the elders, their wisdom and spirit would be passed on and help keep the tribe strong. And while a child is normally allowed to consume some part of their parents regardless of age, Bork was excluded due to his perceived insignificance. He was able to save a piece of bone from his father's finger which he carved into a ring that he keeps with him always.
Shortly after this Bork found a leatherbound book while hunting for small game. At first he would look at the funny markings in the book and just try to copy what he though were pictures. But one day he noticed new markings that he had not made. As he became obsessed with the book, he learned to read the common language of the land, and learned that it was a magic book that was able to create messages that were written in a companion book that the owner possessed. This owner, apparently named Moon, became Bork's mentor and taught him the beginnings of magic as well as other languages, and more about the world.
Although the learning was slow because of how they communicated, Bork took well to the tutoring. And though he continued to be ignored as the runt of the village, his intelligence and grasp of magic quickly outdistance anything that had been seen before in the village, though he kept it in secrecy.
But like his parents, this time was also cut short. One particular morning upon waking, Bork realized that all the pages of his special book had gone blank. Not knowing if he had inadvertently unbound the magic, or if the mentor had simply destroyed their book, or something even worse, Bork set out to find this mentor and return the book to them in hopes of continuing his learning and expanding his understanding and ability with magic. He came south to the town of Saltmarsh, where he discovered one of his own - a large and physically powerful lizard named Kothar, working as a pit fighter at a tavern called the Scale and Tail. Kothar had no memory of his upbringing among his people, and took to his smaller compatriot, in hopes the latter would teach him of the ways of his people. For a month, Bork was put up by Kothar, to the consternation of Miles Pinter, the keeper of the tavern.
Always looking for information on Moon, and a means of survival, Bork attached himself to some recent arrivals, took them to see the sights in the town, and when one, Silmara , said she inherited some property in town, he took her to Bartholomew Brocksby to learn what it might be and where it might be located. Soon after, Bork disappeared, along with Silmara herself. He has not been seen or heard from since, which has contributed to Kothar's depression.
