The Lentokki God Kings
"The might of the Sanguine Order lives on..."
The Lentokki are comprised of blood mages (many from a conclave formerly called The Sanguine Order) exiled from Hariel Majour, who crossed the World Sea in order to establish a new home. They do not face or adhere to the same "magical legislation" as exists in the West. Their ranks involve descendants of the "first generation" of mages who studied in the magic colleges of Varuum, worked in the Tower of Light, or even spent time as or amongst the Boorka.
Now, the only Lentokki who return to Hariel do so in Hariel Minuta. Specifically in Varuum, for the purpose of magical study. Though considered evil by most, the Lentokki are innovators. Golthien, for all its blasted wasteland, is still at the forefront of modern technology. The Lentokki don't believe in the blind divinity of the gods. They believe godhood is just a rank that can be achieved through conquest and study. In fact, their only deity, Krytuss, is a lesser god who desires to be a greater one; or more succinctly, the only deity.
The Lentokki believe in the divinity of technology and progress. But as far as traditions, they only observe those of their Lord Krytuss. As such, the only domain of the old faiths they adhere to is Decay.
The power structure of the nation of Lentokk begins and ends with the Lentokki God Kings, who (though mortal) are worshipped by their citizens as gods. They form their own pantheon of sorts, with each god king representing a particular circle of chaos or evil, though not necessarily described in those terms. There are currently eight God Kings, each ruling a town or city loyal to Lentokk. These God Kings are known as "The Eight" and the collective council they comprise creates and enacts all legislation in the member communities of Lentokk. Within The Eight is an "overseer," a prime God King whom takes precedence over the others in most affairs. The current overseer is a "man" who has held the position for at least several human lifespans. He is known as Xrie Palax.
The people of Lentokk enjoy about as much freedom as members of a society living under tyrannical rule can, with the primary exception being that they must conform to the heretical state religion. They must worship the earthly gods, represented in the mortal flesh by their very own rulers. The god kings, by extension, themselves worship (and draw power from) Lord Krytuss, who has apparently promised them positions of demigod-hood once he is risen from the icy depths of The Demon Isles.
It is well known that the Lentokki maintain a hatred for the civilizations of the West. They were forced away from the most powerful wellspring of magic that has or ever will exit; the holy mountain Celene. It's is also known that they aspire to retake the West, and the only thing that has stopped them thus far is their relative lack of power and territory. This all is about to change.
From their ancestral city of Lentokk... from The Alabast within the city's Deepening Pits, the Lentokki God Kings have begun to forge alliances with likeminded, independent nations and city-states. They are forging a war, with its prize being the very West itself. Anyone with even a cursory understanding of the political situation assume that their first target will be the unaligned city-state of Glointhal, which happens to neighbor Lentokk. The peaceful "bringers of light" in Glointhal have consistently been a thorn in the sides of the God Kings, going back hundreds of years.
GOVERNMENT
The lands of Lentokk are ruled by individual God Kings, who collectively comprise a council of eight, something of a Magocracy (as all the god kings practice blood magic), with all lords on the same level, save one overlord who serves as the head of the council. The current overlord, ruling from the Alabast Keep in the heart of the city of Lentokk is the seemingly ageless blood mage, Xrie Palax. The Eight God Kings are as follows...
1. Xrie Palax, highlord premier of Lentokk (city) 2. Shalask, lord of Kalimess 3. Nahail Krindle, lord speaker of the eight, sometimes of Kalimess or Charport 4. Mesebre, lord of Tolis 5. Letareuss, flamelord of Tolis 6. Halestan Olandiss, lord of Highpoint 7. Vessa Revail, lord in residence, Varistane 8. Ereylias Martleby, lord of Minnorax Each of the god kings are blood mages in their own right. It is unknown whether or not they have unnaturally extended their own lives, or if perhaps their names and titles pass along from generation to generation. Whatever the case, they rule under the (possible) illusion that each are original participants of The Sanguine Order who led the arcane assault in the Sundering
