Highpoint

"The Opulence of the Lentokki Nation..."

Situated at the northwestern tip of Golthien, and home to one of The Lentokki God Kings, Highpoint is possibly the most cosmopolitan city in the nation of Lentokk.   It is ruled by the God King Halestan Olandiss, a Solti blood mage who may be the longest living of the eight god kings (assuming the rumors about Xrie Palax are untrue, that is).   Olandiss rules not so much out of fear, as is the way with some of his peers, but rather through the promise of glory and prosperity for the nation as a whole. He flaunts his wealth and opulence publicly, as he believes it to be "inspirational" to his followers. Besides, he has his Flamelord, the half-orc (and former buccaneer) Highlord Ralbastan, to play bad cop and keep his people in line.   The city itself seems far more lively than it's cousin (in size at least) of Lentokk, with wealthy merchants and bustling streets. It is the second largest settlement in the nation, smaller only than the capitol of Lentokk itself. It is known for its monumental sky towers, giant structures that almost seem to float above the surface of the city floor. In actuality, these megaliths simply expel a low hanging fog that obscures their bases from the distant eye. In each of the eight towers (one dedicated to each of the God Kings), some form of government business is handled. One represents the legislative commission, another the judicial commission, and so forth.   Olandiss presides over his populace from the largest (and shiniest) of the towers, which happens to be named High Point. One wonders if the tower was named for the city, or vice versa.

Demographics

70% human, 15% elven, 5% dwarven, 10% mixed other

Government

Ruled locally by one of the eight Lentokki God Kings, in this case Halestan Olandiss, and overseen nationally by the entirety of the Lentokki Lords.

Defences

The city is protected from external threats by a garrisoned legion of Green Flames (officers) and standard Lentokki soldiers, some 2,000 strong. Internally, the peace is kept through the city watch, a group of 1,000 officers known as the "Points" (for their signature, pointed helms).

Industry & Trade

Highpoint openly trades with all of Golthien (save for Glointhal), and a good portion of the western world.

Infrastructure

Possibly the most beautiful and modern of the Lentokki settlements, Highpoint features every major accommodation imaginable, from aqueducts to mills, along with a vibrant seaport.

Assets

As the greatest trade hub in Lentokk, Highpoint is simply flush with goods from all over the world. Further, artisans and craft masters from all over have settled in the city to ply their wares. It is certainly the most inviting of all the settlements in the nation, and often serves as the public face of Lentokk (at least when diplomacy serves as the best approach).

Guilds and Factions

Many of the world's most prominent guilds are featured here, working alongside a bounty of other, more "local" guilds that specialize in creating wares using blood magic.

History

Highpoint was originally a very different settlement before the Lentokki incursion from the west. Originally a small trading outpost and fishing community, it was quickly overrun by the blood mages of The Sanguine Order, who eventually even took the peoples' name.   The new Lentokki completely redesigned the region, building upwards (and in the case of the capitol city... downwards) and outwards, leveling old structures and building brand new edifices in their place.   Since the incursion nearly 1,400 years ago, Highpoint has been reinvented as the "pearl" of the Lentokki nation. Though much of the world fears the maligned blood mages, most who've actually visited Highpoint have nothing but kind words to say for it. The God King presiding over the city has made a point to build up a very different forward facing identity than his peers, attempting to alter what has historically been written about the (still somewhat fledgeling) nation.

Architecture

The mighty stone spires of Highpoint loom over the modern city. Most building are at least two stories tall, and made of reinforced stone. There are very few wood structures or lean-to's found, save for in the dock district.

Geography

Situated at the northeastern tip of Golthien, Highpoint is the north most settlement in the nation of Lentokk.
