Ruins of Altribar
"Tower of the Unknown Mage..."
At the edge of the Wyrm's Crest Mountains, and the peninsula of Kreeluk, stands a once mighty tower, nearly as high as the mountain peaks surrounding it. This is Altribar. Little is known of the ruins, save for what can be gleaned from its architecture and markings. It seems to be covered in arcane runes, giving it the appearance of a mage's tower. But what manner of sorcerer or warlock occupied its great heights?
Archaeologists are fairly certain it is a relic from the Age of Lumeria. But even that is not certain. What is clear is that at some point in its history, a major magical battle transpired within (and without) its walls, as spellfire scorch marks still grace a large part of its surface area.
Many believe the tower to be haunted, and surely no expedition within its walls has lasted more than a few days. Something seems to repel intruders. Something evil and arcane. A presence... A feeling...
Many history buffs are drawn to the tower, fostering a great passion for its mysteries, only to then quickly retreat from its depths, for reasons they can hardly explain even to themselves.
Recent rumor has it that the tower is no longer unoccupied, and that it houses Lentokki spies who use its great heights to keep a stern eye on the activities of the west. Surely, only the God Kings themselves could stand any significant time within Altribar, as they are acclimated to far worse in the east.
Some believe the ruins occupy the long forgotten site of the lost city of Meeros Tilva (see Aar Tethlan & the Fall of Methanok and The Tapestry of Meeros Tilva for more details). Legend has it that no structure or settlement may be built upon the lands once held by the "phantom city." There is a line from popular legend that reads, "Anything built upon the grounds of Meeros Tilva will soon fall to dust." Although the ruins are not proper "dust," they certainly have fallen into a state of extreme disrepair since their heyday.
