The Holy Order of the Wyrm Hunt

The Holy Order of the Wyrm Hunt are an elite group of knights, originally created to kill dragons. They are often colloquially referred to as "Dragonknights" by the locals. Sonrheim has a history of warring with dragons, and as a result, found it necessary to their survival to create an order of knights trained solely to fight and kill dragons. Dragons are unpredictable foes, and to combat that, the Order train in all manner of weaponry, including mastering the use of the massive ballistae sitting on the walls of Sonrheim.       The Holy Order is formed into three groups, each with its own purpose in protecting the city:     The Garrison   The Garrison makes up the city watchmen, who patrol the streets of Sonrheim and protect its walls. This is considered the lowest part of the Holy Order, but the Honourguard often pull distinguished members of the City Watch to join their ranks as squires.
  • Soldiers at this tier are known as Watchmen.
  • The Garrison is led by a Watch Captain.
  •     The Heavenly See   The Heavenly See is made up of clerics and healers, who tend to the sick and needy. Also considered a part of the Heavenly See are the artificers and spellweavers that design the Honourguard's equipment.
  • The higher priests and priestess within the See are known as Chirurgeons and Seamstresses.
  • The See is led by the High Seamstress.
  •     The Honourguard   The Honourguard are the most elite of the Dragonknights. They are specialized soldiers who protect the Son of the Sky and are mobilized to protect the Barrowdowns and its many villages. They are often sent to stop drakes and wyverns that attack the villages. As dragons are airborne foes, the artificers of Sonrheim have armed the Honourguard with specialized gear that increases their vertical leap and reduces the damage of falls from height. The order train frequently with these items, and can be seen leaping from mountain peak to mountain peak as a part of their harsh training regimen.
  • The members of the Honourguard are Knighted, and referred to with the "Sir" honourific.
  • The Honourguard is led by the Knight Commander, who is given direct orders by the Son of the Sky.
  • Structure

The true leader of the Dragonknights is the Son of the Sky. As warrior-king, the Son in the Sky leads the Dragonknights in battle. As far as training and discipline goes, and leading individual expeditions, the Dragonknights have Knight Commanders, who operate as leader.   New recruits are entered into the order as squires, and train under an established knight in order to gain experience. They spar frequently with other squires and train against the Knight they serve. This system allows young squires to benefit from older knights' experience and old knights to benefit from the fresh perspective younger squires bring.
