Rioting In Bayglen Following the Battle of Hess Hall

Disaster / Destruction

15/3

Portar Winthrop, second child of House Winthrop of Hess Hall, brought news of The Battle of Hess Hall before Queen Malina Somercrag, demanding that Duke Brennar Hayford be brought before the royal court and tried for the attack and the death of Portar's parents ser Dominic and Lady Alson Winthrop and their eldest son ser Daltis.
This news, or the lack of an immediate satisfactory response from the Queen, spurred riots throughout the capital. They were only ended when ser Sola Somercrag reformed Her Vanguard and rode to Allerton, Duke Brennar's next supposed target, to investigate and bring the Duke to justice.

False News
The truth of The Battle of Hess Hall was far removed from the version presented in the letter received by Portar Winthrop. Hess Hall had been marched on by men in the livery of House Hayford of Haycastle, but Duke Brennar Hayford, along with his son Edgarth, Ward ser Mattheo Foxworth and Marshal ser Edam Bracks had been amongst the defenders, not the attackers, and had repelled the attack - the Winthrops had survived unscathed. In fact, ser Dominic had personally knighted ser Edgarth Hayford for his actions in the defense of the castle.
The false news, along with the attack, was part of a conspiracy by ser Kyra Crowler and ser Edam to defame and depose Duke Brennar and House Hayford of Haycastle, which culminated in The Ambush on the Kingsroad and eventually became the seed of The Revolution of 441KS.
