History

Tensions in the Hayford Duchy
Inevitably Somercrag's intervention to stop The Irogonie Aggression in 440KS lead to deaths amongst those who marched to war. The Hayford Duchy's long history of knightly culture meant that more of their Lords and Ladies marched to war than in the neighbouring duchies, and naturally this meant more losses too. As well, some houses took issue with the rewards heaped on ser Newall Foxworth, though none could openly claim the Hero of Starfield did not deserve them for his actions. And of course, some houses had issues with their liege going back generations, some even to the Unification itself. The full treachery of House Crowler is detailed elsewhere, but for the purposes of this record it is enough to say that when Duke Brennar's party rode into Allerton on the first day April they were met by Sola's Vanguard, dispatched from the capital to bring the Duke to face the Queen's Justice. Instead both parties came under attack by ser Kyra Crowler's men. In the ensuing battle ser Sola Somercrag, the crown princess of Bayglen lost an eye to a crossbow bolt, and both ser Edam Bracks and the freshly knighted ser Edgarth Hayford were captured and abducted from the city. Riding North from Allerton to return to Bayglen, on the shores of Eastlake the party encountered ser Edam once again, battered and bruised. He informed them that the Crowlers had taken him aboard a ship across the lake to Tayach Dam, the seat of House Buckhaill. He had escaped the castle, but was filled with guilt that he could not rescue young ser Edgarth. Tayach Dam lay to the East, while the road to Bayglen turned North-West. The decision was made for the Vanguard to split into two parties - the smaller to travel on their intended route to the capital, to deliver the truth of the confused events in the Duchy, the greater part to travel to Tayach Dam, and using the knowledge of ser Doncan Buckhaill infiltrate the castle and recover Edgarth Hayford. This party would be led by ser Tyon Cray, Lord of Baremaw.
The Ambush on the Kingsroad)
Though no accurate accounts of The Ambush on the Kingsroad exist, it is now known that the traitorous knight ser Edam Bracks had been working alongside ser Kyra Crowler. Somehow the two engineered an ambush of ser Sola Somercrag's party and killed all those present - Duke Brennar, ser Sola Somercrag, her Sworn Sword ser Alysia Tallman, ser Boggs Leonhart the bearer of the Royal Standard and ser Arthur Buckhaill, along with all their squires. The consequences of this escalated, eventually leading to The Somercrag Revolution of 441KS.
1: House Locke of Riverfoot became a Vassal of House Hayford in 447KS as part of the creation of The Barony of the Houses East of the Rivers.
