The Grey Coven Traft

For centuries, the Gray Coven has moved like a shadow in twilight, staying hidden while weaving nightmares and catastrophe. It was merely by chance that their greatest weapon, secrecy, was shattered. A group of adventurers had stumbled upon the hamlet of Holmford just as one of the Coven’s plans was coming to fruition.

Not only were the villagers saved but the Coven lost one of their sisters, slain by the heroes. An affront which had never happened before. Worse yet, for the first time, evidence of the Coven’s existence was brought to light.

The heroes now must move against the Coven itself before the full might of the Night Hags can be brought against them. In order to survive, the adventurers will need to make unlikely allies amongst the intrigue of the thieves den, Quag Cove. All the while avoiding the watchful eyes of Coven agents. Success depends solely on the party’s ability to move in secret and strike before the Night Hags are aware of their presence.

Since its creation, the Gray Coven has steadily grown in size and infl uence. Perhaps dozens of Hags, of both fey and fi endish nature, have joined the Coven but few choose to stay at the Tree of Decay, preferring to travel abroad weaving their insidious plots and satisfying their foul desires. However, the Tree of Decay is never without its guardians. Three Night Hags, the first and most powerful hags to join Shoarir, act as caretakers.

Tsura was the first and most powerful of the Night Hags to join Shoarir. She adopted the title of matron aft er Shoarir returned to Hades and leads the Coven’s activities on the Material Plane. Tsura has formed a bond with the Tree of Decay far beyond what any of the other hags have. She is able to tap into the eldritch power of the tree giving her devastating arcane power. Since these powers fade if she moves much beyond a mile from the tree, Tsura never travels beyond that point.

Sinfoy and Zora came next. Each of them have secret machinations of supplanting Tsura but fear the power she wields through the Tree of Decay. They jealously believe that Tsura deliberately blocks the tree from speaking to them the way it does to the matron. Lacking the nerve and strength to challenge Tsura, both Sinfoy and Zora see to the needs of the Tree and follow the matron’s commands. However, each are mindful to watch for any sign of weakness that they may exploit.

News of defeat in Holmford and the death of one of their sisters has spread through the coven like wildfire. Some hags have chosen to hunt for the interlopers while others have unleashed a fury of pain and torment upon those who were already part of a greater scheme. In either case, none of the hags even considered that the heroes of Holmford would make straight for the Tree of Decay.

Berenice Sherant (The Druid of the Hornwood from DB1), a druid who had long been following the activities of the Hags, discovered the Blightmoor and the approximate location of the Tree of Decay. With her help, the adventurers made their way to Quag Cove where they hoped to learn the exact location of the Gray Coven.

The Grey Coven was created by Shoarir
