Session 50: Legacy of the Wind Dukes

General Summary

The party faced off against the demon, with Sigvurd jumping out of the book just in time. It was a tense battle, but in the end the demon lay on the marble floor, bisected by Sigvurd's greataxe, and then subsequently melted by multiple sacred flames, lest it rise to bother them again.   The party rested before opening the sarcophagus. As they lifted the heavy lid, a wave of jealousy and anger washed over them, swiftly replaced by understanding and acceptance. They looked within the tomb, and saw two swords of shining mithral, untarnished by the millennia of disuse, as well as a ring set with sapphires, and a broken bit of metal that resembled a geode, its insides crystallized.   The party lingered another hour to investigate their treasures before heading out. They discovered the swords were even more powerful when used together, and that the strange metal "geode" was nothing less than a fragment of the famed Rod of Law. Pleased with their finds, they retraced their steps easily, and met Antyress, captain of the tomb's defenses and Earl of Coalchester, in the upper halls.   The Salamander demanded to know why they were carrying the revered Duke's personal weapons, and when the party's fibs failed to convince, he summoned a second fire elemental and charged them. Sigvurd's frosty attacks soon forced Antyress to flee, but his elementals remained behind, engulfing the party in their flames.   Though Sigvurd's rage and the cooling powers of his greataxe protected him, the rest of his party were not so blessed, and found themselves burned again and again. As Sigvurd battled the door that Antyress had fled through, a third, more fearsome foe appeared: a knight of flame, with heavy armour and blazing-hot scimitars.   The party was soon scattered by the onslaught, with some near the exit and some trapped in the corridor as the enemy advanced...
