Agrimir Wastes

The Agrimir wastes are a land tainted by Ederstone, which the Chimera rained down in meteors two millennia ago. Ruins of the old civilizations that once lived here have long been buried beneath the mutated mass, but every so often old buildings or artifacts are tossed up and rediscovered.   The wastes are a dangerous place, alive with constantly mutating and changing forms of life. The life here is often dangerous, particularly towards outsiders. The Kivishta and Starspawn cults that live here seem to be spared the majority of the violence that intruders or border-soldiers get, but their minds (and sometimes bodies) seem to belong more to the land than themselves. Bandits, eccentrics, and communities cling to the less-lethal corners the best they can.    This is the location of the second largest Ederstone meteor, and while it isn't the largest Ederstone waste, it can be the deadliest. For centuries, the Empire of Eketen has pressed in on all sides to reclaim land from it, and with every mile of soil taken the wasteland seems to become more vicious in response.

Geography

The wastes are 253 miles long and 120 miles across. The Western border is the fortified coastline, the Southern border is the Darness river, and the Eastern and Northern borders are the fortified Argenfell mountains (a range of mountains that run through Eketen from the Adira Mountains).    Almost all of the Agrimir wastes are either swamp or forest of some kind. The air is humid, and the mutated vegetation seems to have transformed the land into a temperate jungle of sorts. The Southern forests, known as the Eternal Moor, are the wettest and warmest, and the ground there has been replaced with half-mineral, half-organic muck. Voted most likely place to die in quicksand. The Northern forests, meanwhile, have firmer ground and drier air, but are still incredibly dense. Due to the fact that the trees there seem to crawl during certain seasons and rearrange themselves, the North is known as the Creeping Woods. Also in the North is a small chain of mountains known as Ustav's Steps, which are some of the only escapes from the forest below, but seem to have unnaturally smooth and bulbous rock formations that sometimes emit unusual buzzing sounds during the summer.    To the East is the Grassy Gate: the only flat area in the wasteland devoid of trees. Strange beasts roam here, and the grass does seem to stack upon itself in calcified layers with myriad tunnels within the "ground", but hey, at least its dry!   At the center is the Maw of Chaos, an enormous organism/ecosystem that houses a massive Ederstone meteor. The enormous, breathing mouth that juts out of the earth is the most obvious part of the Maw, but it is possible that there is a whole submerged titanic creature that has grown around the meteor somehow. The area known as the Maw is not all part of this enormous beast, but all of the land is seemingly of the same mind and sometimes of the same body.
