Brontbran

Brontbran is a small duchy in the south of Fron Aberaelwyd which controls the southwestern region of the continent. The nation is run by a council of religious judges, adhering to the religious law of the Communion of the Six Divines, the primary religion across Marcean and Macavurian nations. Brontbran borders two other nations, Pantfelin and the Grand Duchy of Thecedor, harboring peaceful and cooperative relations with Pantfelin but distrustful relations with Thecedor. The people of Brontbran fear Thecedor, an expanding, militaristic nation, as they believe the nation's recent treaties with the Macavurian Principalities only leave them with expansion south, into Brontbran and Pantfelin. This has led to a military alliance between Brontbran and Pantfelin, with both nations being united in their cultures and desires to remain independent.    Brontbran's council of religious judges, known as the Speakers' Circle, is the primary force in charge of the nation's lawmaking and enforcement of law. The council is made up of seven judges, six of whom are from human settlements across Brontbran. The one remaining space is reserved for a Tudori judge, who is meant to provide council and advice based on the rural and minority elements of the nation's population. There is no ceremonial, unifying ruler as the Speakers' Circle is meant to act as a medium through which laws are discussed among a variety of differing viewpoints, and any form of singular ruler would hinder this ambition.    The lands of Brontbran consist of dense forests and flat grasslands, leading to a concentrated and small population in the interior of the country, primarily around the arable grasslands closer to the Brontbran-Pantfelin border. The other major hearths of settlement in Brontbran are castle-towns on the northern border, created to slow or deter potential assaults. The dense forests allow for some natural protection from invasion, especially due to the intermittent Tudori settlements located in Brontbran's forests. The Tudori, a race of forest-dwelling humanoids characterized by their pale skin, crescent-shaped heads, deeply-set facial features, and foliage-like hair, are a sizeable minority across Fron Aberaelwyd. While they do not consider themselves a part of any kingdom or nation and rely on clan-based distinction, they have formed deals with human kingdoms in the area, ensuring their autonomy in return for tithes and an assurance of solidarity in case of an invasion. The forests of Brontbran have experienced strange occurrences lately, with a sudden spike in seemingly unnatural wildfires that have forced Tudori off of their land and into Marcean cities, creating tensions and resource shortages. This has led to protests, unrest, and conflict within major cities such as the capital city of Vinograde and the major port of Perendil.
