Spaiel (spay-el)

Spaiel is a stout industrial city that produces incredible artworks and weapons of war through its abundance of clay. It is the home of Duchess Wothne'ar who has been receptive to Spearhold's presence and power within the city.   The rounded clay buildings which fill the city offer a uniquely open skyline, which is filled with smoke from the many clay processing plants. Though it is said by those who who survived The Windfall that it reminds them of Yigerian ruins.

Government

Duchess Halakir Wothne'ar is a Yigerian orphan who married the previous Duke's son Ethan Mantinson. Duke Mantinson ruled for a number of years before passing in poor health. The now widowed Duchess has ruled the city by herself for the last 6 years and has facilitated the growth of the city's clay industry.   Any guilds that exist are small and have very little influence, everyone is beholden to the Duchess and pays the taxes that she establishes.

Defences

Spaiel is equipped with tall walls with siege weaponry. Despite being deep within friendly territroy Spaiel still maintains it's catapults and ballista and some call the area surrounding the city walls the "Ring of Death".

Industry & Trade

Spaiel was constructed on the banks of a massive and accessible clay deposit and has since been developed into an industrial powerhouse surround the excavation, refinement, and trade of massive amounts of clay. Which makes Spaiel the largest exporter of brick, pottery, and other heat resistant parts.   During wartimes the city is prepared to be entirely retrofitted towards the development of barricades made from a clay-based concrete like material, shattering arrowheads, and throw-able explosives. These, of course, are exported at cost to its fellow cities of Lorelind and at great profit to other nations.   Spaiel heavily imports staples, like food and cloth, from the surrounding towns and villages.

Infrastructure

Spaiel has a sewer system to keep the city clean and wells accessing groundwater. Spaiel also has numerous hospitals and clinics to treat the workers injured while mining or working clay and the many adventurers who explore The Windfall.

Districts

Cartahelm is the beating heart of Spaiel. It is where the majority of people live and work, the short clay buildings are broken up by the occasional two-story inn or more expensive home.   Windward is the northern district, entry and exit from Windward is heavily controlled as it contains the clay mine that Spaiel relies on. There are homes within the walls where miners are expected to work and live as well as Bars, Markets, Arenas, and Clinics to suit every need of those who make there living here.   Highseat is a district home to the Duchess, her servants, and a few other elites. This small district is notable from the tall palm trees and bright gardens that accent the larger buildings. It is said that only foreign ambassadors and fellow Dukes are allowed along its green paths.
