Personal history
Mathias has lived what many in the kingdom may be considered a tragic life. Fourth in line for the throne born to the second wife of his Father, King Andreas, Mathias was trained since childhood to be a tactical general. This didn't sit well with the young prince, who at the time considered himself a pacifist. This pacifism would prove to be a constant internal and external conflict in his life. Mathias was born to an orcish mother, and as such has spent much of his childhood attempting to ignore a latent bloodlust inherent to his maternal heritage, and his siblings recognizing this irony bullied him relentlessly for it. As young Mathias grew up, a sickness had spread itself through Sernos, and it was only a matter of time until it reached the keep. Two of Mathias' brothers had fallen ill and quickly, but Mathias and his mother remained perfectly healthy. King Andreas, fearing a political takeover, confronted Mathias' mother. The encounter didn't end peacefully. Mari, fearing for her life in the confrontation had stabbed fatally King Andreas. Mathias sister, Braith, would then take the throne, and her first act as sovereign would be to execute Mari. Braith, understanding that Mathias had no fault in the discourse, would make Mathias the head of her personal guard. He resented his new position, but his sister was the only family he had left and the only in his family that treated him with kindness. In a months time, however, she too would fall ill. After consulting Lovrekke, the Sovereigns personal advisor, Mathias took Braith on a trek to Ailbhafair to meet with a famed cleric of Faustina. However, the journey would never reach hits destination. Mathias and Braith were waylaid by a group of gnolls lead by a mysterious mage, and it would be this encounter that would cause the death of Braith. Mathias, being held by the wizards enchantment had to watch as his sister was torn apart by the gnolls. Gnolls that would soon turn to him. Little is written after this point, but what is known is that Mathias returned to Sernos after a week of being missing with the decomposing remains of his last remaining family member in hand. At this time, Mathias would no longer consider himself a pacifist and understood better than many of his predecessors the true nature of their position. He condemned the laziness previous sovereigns displayed and took immediate action, banning all arcane magic from the country and renewing the fight against Aterfodden, taking Aknir of the defense and back into a force of order fueled by wrathful prejudice.
Mental Trauma
The deaths of his sister at the hand of gnolls has lead Mathias to have a bitter hatred to monsters and has to contain himself severely when dealing what he may perceive as "Others" as well as clouded his perception of his Kingly duties, thus never taking a wife and presently being the final Ceineghus in the line.
