'Okeko

'Okeko is a continent covered mostly in snow and ice year round. A cross-continental mountain range harshly divides 'Okeko in two almost perfect halves. Half of the region is fairly easy to access through Port Turron, while the other half is not only difficult to access, but also an incredibly dangerous environment.

Population

The Population of 'Okeko is mostly composed of Elves, Dwarves, and Halflings, however, there are members of all races present, just like the rest of Huggleland. The large majority of dwarves live in the northeast mountains, while most of the Halflings live in the southwest hills. The elves are the largest group living across the rest of the region. The Duchess Rugas, oversees the land with her husband and children from the capital city of BonBon. All people are expected to be as self-sufficient as possible, as travel is not always possible.

Economy

'Okeko's economy is heavily dependent on the mining of natural resources and tourism. Sweet Tooth brings in thousands of tourists annually with its games and entertainment. Archeologists and Historians also travel the realm often searching for answers about the Saccharo Elves, as rumors consistently point to 'Okeko being their last known home. The jewels and stones found in the mines are considered to be extremely valuable due to the difficult nature of harvesting them from the frozen depths.

Unrest across the region

Despite the crown's call for peace and harmony, there is a constant political battle going on between those that support mining efforts and those that want to end mining operations. While one side touts the importance of mining to the global economy and livelihood of families dependent on mining, the other side argues the costs on nature is too high. Occasionally, these political spats turn into physical fights that are typically resolved with the Duchess sending out a small battalion of troops to restore peace.

Fighting the Environment

To add an extra level of difficulty, nature is often cruel and unkind in this area. There are blizzards, ice storms, avalanches, and whiteouts to contend with nearly every day for the citizens of 'Okeko. If these dangers were not enough, the Continent experiences constant darkness for half of the year. The number of fatalities doubles during the dark season. Many immigrants to the area do not stay past a few months, and often leave after experiencing their first season of dark.
