Dioniseed Beach

Geography

Dioniseed Beach is a stretch of shoreline facing an offshore nature preserve. The native bioluminescent algae that thrive in the protected waters make the beach a popular tourist destination at night.

Ecosystem

There are few native bacterias on Freehaven that have adapted to living on land. While the land-dwelling variants are still present nearly everywhere, they are overshadowed by the abundant aquatic species. The oceanic bacteria are also more noticeable due to the bioluminescence of some species. The color of the bioluminescence varies by latitude, with bright blue lights being visible at night in the waters off Dioniseed Beach.

Climate

As with the rest of the planet, Dioniseed Beach has a mild, wet climate year-round.

Fauna & Flora

All native life on Freehaven consists of single-celled organisms. The protected waters off the coast of Dioniseed Beach are dense with bacteria. The beach itself is surrounded by non-native Earth grasses and shrubs to control erosion.

History

Due to the lack of natural harbors occurring along an extensive stretch of coastline, the oceans off the coast of what is now Dioniseed were not heavily farmed for kelp or carbonic in the early days of the planet's settlement. As more and more of the planet's oceans were given over to farming, conservationists started preserving the few remaining natural spaces left in the planet's oceans. Even these areas are still not pristine, as Earth bacteria has permeated every corner of the planet. However, Earth and Freehaven biology are incompatible with each other, meaning that while native and introduced bacteria compete for space and resources, they do not directly prey on each other. Efforts to eradicate non-native life in the protected waters of the nature preserve have led to a resurgence in bioluminescent activity over the past decades.

Tourism

The beach is a popular destination for tourists. Popular activities are sunbathing, swimming, boating, and nighttime diving. Even for tourists who do not directly visit the beach, the glowing blue waters provide a beautiful backdrop for patio dinners and parties.
