Eternal Struggle of Ganon, Link and Zelda

The demigods Ganon, Link, and Zelda are believed--according to lore--to be locked in a never-ending struggle that has spanned eons. The conflict is typically instigated (again, according to lore) by Ganon attempting to obtain the Triforce in order to use it to dominate the world and plunge it into darkness and despair, with Link and Zelda trying to prevent him from doing so.
Legends speak that thus far, Link and Zelda have prevented Ganon from achieving his goals. However, legends also speak that Ganon will never yield in his pursuit of world domination, and when a significant time has passed since his last defeat, he somehow returns to the world in mortal form (or chooses a mortal body to serve as his vessel on the world). When he does, Link and Zelda follow suit, choosing their own vessels. It is unknown if Link's and Zelda's are born as the vessels of Link and Zelda, or if the vessels eventually "awaken" to become the embodiment of Link and Zelda. Eventually, all three will come together for a decisive battle. The winner(s) live(s) on, the mortal form(s) of the defeated is/are destroyed, and the demigod essence(s) of the defeated return(s) to the realm of immortals, where he/she/they must wait for a new vessel on the mortal world, if he/she/they wish to return(s).
