The Necropolis

Base of Operations for the Angels of Death.

Purpose / Function

The Necropolis serves as the clandestine headquarters for the Angels of Death, a nefarious organization comprising dark magic users, assassins, and various unsavory individuals. This sinister base operates as a center for planning and executing their dark schemes, training recruits in the deadly arts, and conducting forbidden magical experiments. It is a place shrouded in mystery and dread, known only to its members and those unfortunate enough to fall into its grasp.

Alterations

The Angels of Death have extensively modified the former castle of Olinth to suit their dark purposes. Significant alterations include:   Waterproofing Fortifications: Given the castle's location in the sunken city of Olinth, the Necropolis has been fortified to prevent water from seeping into the underground chambers. This involves both mundane and magical means, such as enchanted barriers and reinforced structural elements. Secret Tunnels and Hidden Chambers: Numerous secret passages and hidden rooms have been added to facilitate covert movement within the base and to hide key areas from intruders. Dark Magical Enhancements: The castle is imbued with dark magic, enhancing its defenses and creating an atmosphere of fear and oppression. These enhancements also serve to obscure the Necropolis from magical detection and scrying attempts.

Architecture

The architecture of the Necropolis retains the grand, imposing style of the original castle but has been twisted to reflect its new, sinister purpose. Key architectural features include:   Gothic Elements: Dark, towering spires, gargoyles, and ominous statues adorn the interrior, giving the castle an even more foreboding appearance. Fortified Structures: Thick, reinforced walls and battlements protect the base from external threats, while iron-barred windows and heavy, enchanted doors secure the interior. Dark Aesthetics: The interior is decorated with macabre symbols, eerie artwork, and oppressive lighting, creating an environment of perpetual dread. Subterranean Halls: Below ground, the Necropolis features extensive dungeons, ritual chambers, and training areas, all meticulously designed to facilitate the organization’s dark activities.

Defenses

The Necropolis is heavily defended both physically and magically to ensure its secrecy and security:   Physical Defenses: The base features reinforced walls, traps, and guarded entrances. Only members who have passed the sadistic trials can navigate these defenses without triggering deadly countermeasures. Magical Defenses: Powerful wards and enchantments protect the Necropolis from magical intrusion and scrying. These defenses also include curses and hexes that deter and punish trespassers. Sadistic Trials: The only way to gain entry to the Necropolis as an outsider is through a series of brutal and sadistic trials designed to test the loyalty, cunning, and strength of potential recruits. These trials are unknown to outsiders and are lethal to those who fail. Guardians: Dark constructs, summoned demons, and loyal assassins constantly patrol the Necropolis, ready to eliminate any intruders.
