Temple of Eternal Light

The Temple of Eternal Light is a structure located deep within the swamplands. It was once a temple used by The Circle of Eternal Death for their worship, rituals, and ceremonies related to death and the afterlife. However, it fell into ruin over time and was eventually abandoned.   Keepers of the Light, a secret society of elders within The Circle of Guiding Light, have since taken over the temple and repurposed it for their own use. They have made alterations to the structure, including the addition of hidden chambers and secret passageways, to better serve as a location for their own rituals and ceremonies.   The temple is now partially sunken into the swamp, making it difficult to spot from a distance and providing a natural defense against unwanted visitors. Despite its abandoned appearance, the temple holds great significance to both the Keepers of the Light and the Circle of Eternal Death, representing the ongoing struggle between the two religions in the Court of the Withered.

Purpose / Function

The Temple of Eternal Light serves as the central place of worship for the Circle of Guiding Light. It is where the faithful come to pay homage to Arawn and seek guidance from the Keepers of the Light. The temple is also home to many important relics and artifacts, such as ancient texts and sacred objects, which are kept under the watchful eye of the Keepers. In addition to being a spiritual center, the Temple of Eternal Light also serves as a hub for the activities of the Keepers, who use it as a base of operations for their clandestine efforts to preserve their faith and protect the relics from the Circle of Eternal Death.   This location was once a temple for The Circle of Eternal Death but was abandoned when it fell into ruin as time and the swamp overtook it. To the outside world, it is an empty ruin in the swamplands of the Court of the Withered.

Alterations

During the time of its existence, the Temple of Eternal Light has undergone various alterations and modifications to serve different purposes. When it was first built by the Circle of Eternal Death, it was a grand and ornate temple with intricate carvings and statues depicting death and the afterlife.   After the temple fell into ruin and was abandoned, the Keepers of the Light took over and made various modifications to the temple to serve their own purposes. They added hidden rooms and secret passageways for their own rituals and ceremonies, as well as traps and other defenses to keep intruders out.   In addition to these modifications, the Keepers of the Light have also repurposed some of the existing features of the temple, such as the altar, for their own use. They have also added their own symbols and decorations to the temple, which now serve to represent their own faith and the ongoing struggle between the two religions.   Overall, the alterations made to the Temple of Eternal Light by the Keepers of the Light have transformed it from a once grand and ornate temple of death into a hidden and secure location for their own secret rituals and ceremonies.

Architecture

The Temple of Eternal Light was constructed using a combination of stone, wood, and other natural materials found in the surrounding swamp. The exterior of the temple is made of dark stone, with intricate carvings and symbols adorning the walls. The roof is made of wooden shingles, which have decayed and fallen off in some areas over time. The interior of the temple is also made of stone and wood, with a central chamber that was once used for ceremonies and worship. The walls of this chamber are covered in faded murals depicting scenes of death and the afterlife, and there are various alcoves and niches for holding relics and offerings. The temple has a rustic and ancient feel to it, with the passing of time and the effects of the swamp giving it a weathered and worn appearance.
