Makewent
Makewent is a small town in the Kingdom of Newia on the Great Weston Road, about 190 km east of the capital, Guilbury, and about 225 km west of the border with Orbach. It sits on a crossroads, with south leading to the more heavily populated coastal regions, and north towards the infamous Frosthill mountains.
Demographics
Due to its nature as a crossroads town, Makewent has quite a large mix of species counted as residents, from humans from Duland and Schwarz ethnicities, to halflings, dwarves and even half-elves and tieflings. The village inn usually has an even greater variety, from half-orc mercenaries accompanying traders to elf minstrels exploring the Great Weston Road.

Government
As a minor settlement, Makewent is ultimately ruled by the Count of Manridia from the county capital of Boster but, like most settlements in Newia, authority is devolved to an appointed Knight of the Shire. The Knight of the Shire for Makewent is Aefic, whose family has ruled the Makewent area for over a hundred years.
Aefic is perceived by many as a decent leige, albeit t slightly corrupt in a jovial manner. Most the residents have little respect for the man, even if the position itself is taken more seriously. Apparently has the confidence of someone in the capital, enough to ensure his low-ley embezzlements and lavish castle aren't looked at too deeply.
Knights of the Shire have almost absolute authority in their areas but only the most ardent abuse their powers. Mostly towns and villages operate under the guidance of wealthy land owners, prominent craftsmen and other esteemed local individuals. Whilst this gathering lacks any official power, they have substantial social influence and most people will abide by their 'advice'.
Infrastructure
Makewent has a popular inn for travellers of the Great Weston Road; the Wandering Goblin, so named after a folk tale where a lost goblin was found in the town and strung up outside the inn. It also has a blacksmiths, a couple of stores mainly selling supplies and equipment for travellers, and a mixed magic and alchemists shop. There is a temple to the gods, as well as the overly large castle belonging to the local ruler, Lord Aefic.
