Scorched Bone
General Summary
After resting in Amano-Iwato, the group returned to the Crescent Moon Outpost along with Izanagi, Amaterasu, Susano'o, and Tsukuyomi. Upon meeting with Tao-Ren , Suzuha, and Tanjiro Izanagi explained that the Monarchs would be able to suppress Yomi's expansion for roughly a week during which Yomi's ever-changing landscape would be frozen in place and locating Izanami and her sons would be much more feasible. He also advised Tao-Ren to consider the likely possibility that Izanami had crafted a demonic amulet, the equivalent of a Lich's phylactery for a demon lord.
With all three Jingi gathered Izanagi used them to finally craft Ame-no-Nuhoko for Benkei to wield in the coming battles and Tao-Ren advised the group to assist Liu-Xiao with scouting the Bone Orchard to the south-east. After taking time to relax and wrap up some loose ends, the group set out for the Bone Orchard. On their way out of the camp, they bumped into Liu-Xiao herself who had returned to the outpost to speak with Tao-Ren, and filled her in on what they'd accomplished as well as the hunt for Izanami, her children, and the demonic amulet. Liu-Xiao expressed interest in the demonic amulet and informed them that if one possessed a demonic amulet, they could exert a degree of control over the demon who created it. She also warned them that as soon as a demonic amulet is moved from it's hiding place the demon lord would instantly know and be able to track it's location.
Due to complications, it took the group 3 days to catch up to the scouting party-nearly twice as long as it should have as they battled mariliths, met a strange wandering salesman in a maid outfit and iron mask, freed a Ki-rin, and slogged their way through Yomi's inhospitable terrain. Eventually they reached the Bone Orchard, a strange and twisted forest made of bone and flesh where they joined up with Liu-Xiao and the Sword Jockey's she'd brought with her. To their horror, they learned that Liu-Xiao had not been in the outpost when they'd left and had no memory of speaking with them.
During the fourth day their group stumbled upon the missing Twilight Enclave scouts who had been brutally mutilated. Moving in to investigate, they were ambushed by several dozen wooden constructs as well as by a construct that identified itself as the Second Son, who declared its intention to eliminate the traitor Ichirou. The combat was brutal and hard-fought, but eventually the constructs were destroyed and those that survived fled south through the forest of bone. The ambush was not without casualties- Yao-Fen and Seokjin were both grievously injured and Benkei had been "killed" by the Second Son and was now under the Yomi's death defying influence. Liu-Xiao, who'd also been wounded teleported back to the outpost with the recovered Enclave scouts and the remaining Sword Jockey's used the Sōryū dreadnought to ferry their wounded back as well. The group, as well as Honoka and the quartermaster of the Iron Samurai, Shingen decided to pursue the fleeing constructs in hopes of locating their stronghold.
