Almara
Known as "The City in White" or "The City of Marble", Almarie (or Almara to locals) is a port city on the Praehedron Coast and the seat of The Praehedron Conglomerate.
While Porta Calais is the largest city in the Conglomerate, the city of Almara was chosen to be the seat of the council and the center of government for the organization.
One only has to gaze at a distance to see the brilliant white towers of the city almost completely built out of marble mined from the nearby quarries. This river-laned city on the coast is bustling with trade and it is easy to find any number of artistic endeavors there. It is a beautiful city with romantic canals, roaring markets, and art in every corner of the city.
The food in Almara is second to none as the constant shipments into the Dominion provide the city's chefs and bakers the freshest and rarest ingredients to make anything desired and its location on the mainland provides much needed everyday items to craft even the most ambitious meals. Many different dishes are popular in Almara, including Du'ask; a pasta dish with shellfish and other seafood, Ravon; a deep dish doughy pie with multiple meats, cheeses, and tomato sauce, and Fusar, an adapted dish originally from the Al-Zha'ad Alliance comprised of various fish with incredible amounts of spice and seasoning to make it a variable explosion of flavor.
Demographics
The population in Almara is somewhere between 15,000 and 20,000, although that number is in dispute with the constant influx of wealthy nobles which visit "The View". In terms of race, Almara is a mainly human city of different ethnicities, most of them Shamali. Most of the population is unaware how large of a Lorkin community they have, with it making up nearly 1/3rd of the population. Another large portion is the Gnomes who decided to stay during their immigration westward. Other races live in Almara as well, but these are rare.
Government
Almara is all about money, being run by nobles who became "noble" through wealth, rather than birth. Because of this, there is a permeating idea that anyone with citizenship can bring their issues before the council, but this usually translates to citizens with issues to bring to court bringing said issues before one of the city's justiciars, which are much better at filing paperwork than changing anything. If there is one thing Almara does very well when it comes to government, it's bureaucracy, and since wealth is how the city is run, corruption and greed are never far from any city official.
The Justiciars report to the City Magistrate, who is elected by the Duke's own council, and exists to pretty much tell everyone "no" all the time. This has the capacity to bring the wheels of Almara to a grinding halt whenever a citizen has a problem, but most citizens in Almara live in luxury compared to outside the city walls, so there is usually little complaint.
The Magistrate sits on the Duke's Council, but also reports to them anything of note in the city. In this way, anyone with real influence can still achieve their goals, while the commoners have their needs met with people with much less to do than the Duke's Council, or the Duke himself.
