Zaros
Tall, pale, nightmarish Lorkin that strike fear in everyone that hears of them. Zaros are slow, methodical, and devious. They prefer to stay in the shadows of dark mansions and caves to do their work of taking apart helpless victims and experimenting on the remains.
Alchemists, Scientists, and Mad men, Zaros' are truly evil and there are many Lorkin who hate them.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Near-white skin with small, beady eyes and sharp teeth, these Lorkin are scary to see. They tower over most humans and other Lorkin, their skin shimmers in the moonlight, and they sharpen their fangs in order to cause the most fear as they can in others.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Rarely seen together and being absorbed in their "work", Zaros typically don't follow any sort of formal structure. Even family ties are nothing compared to the all-important work, which takes an almost religious nature. However, they do recognize a hierarchy when they see it and follow it well - they would never sacrifice their position (if, for instance, employed by a ruler) unless it was absolutely necessary.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Many Zaros' put themselves in a position of power, usually near a king or some other ruler, in order to further their own personal brand of experimentation. This typically ends with the Zaros being the ruler's personal alchemist or scientist, and sooner or later their sick experimentation is utilized by the ruler for war...
Facial characteristics
Their aura bleeds darkness as one looks into a Zaros eyes. Their beady eyes, fanged smile, pale skin, and usually-long jet black hair is enough to frighten even the most prepared of individuals; their eyes, inset and dark with the feintest glow of redness, seem to look through their victims, as if none could challenge them. Their canines, long and sharp, poke through their mouth and muffle their speech. Their skin is pale, seemingly drained of life even in their human form, and give an essence of death.
Average Intelligence
Highly intelligent, especially when it comes to anatomy and physiology. Zaros' are scientists at their core, who love performing experiments on any living thing they can find to further their knowledge.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
With average hearing and smell, Zaros make up for it with being able to see clearly in the dark. Their eyes can pick up on the slightest details even in total blackness.
Civilization and Culture
Common Dress Code
Zaros' are never unfashionable. Always seen in wealthy clothing, donned with amulets and rings, they are typically exclusively high-class and never "lower" themselves to mingle with the poor - unless it is to find a victim.
Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals
Their "work" of experimentation and torture on other species is almost sacred to them and each Zaros has their own personal flare. It is a calling to them and when it happens its almost impossible to resist. Traditionally, when a Zaros reaches a certain age, he/she must take on a branch of science of their own and start developing their own personal experiments.
History
Zaros' claim to descend from Lady Death herself, being the embodiment of death and to push the limits of life on all creatures around them. Of course, this makes their place in Lorkin society very shaky. Even Draconin are disgusted when in their presence. This makes them outcasts from other Lorkin, whether true or not.
In some way or another, Zaros' have been involved in every skirmish, battle, and war across the realms. Every great technological advancement in medicine has been because of their unethical experimentation or torture.
When the Great Spanch War started, it is disputed among historians as to how the Order of Klyn was able to kidnap King Arnvid's son, since even the Order dared not incur the wrath of the Vahlic Clans. Some Querrans who know of Lorkin suspect that it was actually a Zaros who kidnapped the child, sparking a war that could satisfy his hunger.
During the days of the Black War, the Zaros' were hunted as well as the Khufuan Army by the Grim Fist of Inglaand, though this wouldn't be common knowledge, even to those who knew of Lorkin, until much later.
