Hobachak Settlement in Kaomora | World Anvil

Hobachak

Town/Area at a Glance
Welcome to Hobachak a peaceful seaside human settlement, known for its great food, warm and friendly people and the perpetual problem of the ghosts in the woods to the south (but we don't put that on the tourism flyers). Hobachak has beautifully constructed homes of wood, clay and either slate or thatch rooves depending on the wealth of its inhabitants. Simple wooden walls surround the city with a few guards posted on each of the towers, there is a large dock that ferries boats between Serpent Spire and the mainland and for this reason, there are a number of folks other than humans that call Hobachak home.

Brief History
Hobachak was originally founded by humans venturing north from their original Kingdom of Zagari. They found the wealth of woodlands surrounding it appealing, the tranquillity divine and the seaside lifestyle alluring. It wasn't long till the settlement founded its first dock, lumberyard and began to make a name for itself as a wonderful town of trade and commerce.

Society
The society still is largely human in influence, however, it has also attracted the attention of elves looking for simpler lives than the city of splendour that is Serpent Spire. You may also find others gracing the streets of this fine settlement, as the port welcomes all walks of life. There is the founding Hobamead family who takes care of the town - Rigolae Hobamead is the current lord who presides over the city.

Political
The political system is quite simple, it is ruled over mostly by Rigolae but he takes the word of the people seriously and does his best to quell any concerns before they become inflamed issues.

Economical
Trade with Serpent Spire has lined the coffers of Hobachak well enough to maintain its existence. The lumber trade has stagnated given the lack of interest in logging in the southern forest of the Twisted Trunk Forests and logging the northern forests of Suns reach woodlands has proven problematic with the clergy of Pelor, God of healing, sun and summer. So times could be better for Hobians but hopefully, the winds of change could be coming.

Religious
There is little religious activity within the wooden walls. Prayer of gods of Lawful Good or Neutral Good is respected and allowed but none to that's pantheon deals with death.

Military
Earthen Forged have been recruited from the northern wards and they begrudgingly keep the city safe. The people of the town respect them, however feel they come with a higher price than they're worth.

Customs and Cultures
Few customs are kept within Hobachak but it is tradition to offer a basket of fruit for any newcomers, the larger the basket the greater the esteem of the guest.

Known laws
Penalties within Hobachak are carried out by the Earthen Forged on behalf of Lord Hobamead and the below laws are common knowledge. Hobachak falls under Common Law as well as the below rules.
