01 - Podrost Town

A SETTLEMENT CONSIDERED A REFUGE

This secluded town has existed in several forms over the past few centuries and in its latest iteration has grown into an idylic underground community. This beautiful natural grotto is humid even during the most frigid winter and the pools of freshwater never freeze. Among the massive earthen columns that reach into the cavernous darkness above, the people have constructed and cultivated homes and buildings that follow along natural trails to minimize the effect on the surroundings while making the most of pre-existing features, such as the freshwater pools or easily caught ocean crabs that wash up on the nearby shoreline.

Government

The survivors that settled on the coast brought their own flavour of democracy with them. It took two generations before there were enough suitable adults to fill many of the roles but by that time most of the people who knew anything of government and legislature had passed away. There was no period of adjustment once the decision was made to settle long-term on the coast. Every survivor, regardless of lineage or species, had lived as part of the same honogenus culture prior to the cataclysm and easily continued to conform. All the laws required for a stable government were established long before any of them could turn to banditry, but there were significant elements of their core culture and history that were lost to time. After all, the survivors were mainly sailors and day labourers who made their lives on the ocean.

Defences

The tunnels that lead to Podrost are maze-like and the people from the town take great care to obscure it further. From the occassional wild beast to wayward kakornio raiding parties, the Eiyudi have camoflagued half-walls that blend into the surrounding environment in case they need to make a hasty escape or seek cover and false walls with hidden 'murder holes' for their spears and javelins if violence is required.

History

After a cataclysmic disaster the Eiyudi fled across the ocean. The storm chased them until they found the new continent and the massive network of tunnels and caves to shelter them. Podrost was the very first settlement built by the survivors while the humans already calling the continent Allegri couldn't stop squabbling between themselves. Despite some internal conflict, violence is not in their nature and they have slowly and quietly flourished below ground.
