The Court

The royal family was evacuated from The Virulent City when the Quarantine began, but as they lost control of the country to the Horrors, they were forced to retreat back into the city. Here, they found not admiring crowds of sycophants, but rather a city that had grown used to governing itself and was none too fond of having been abandoned. The king has had to fight for just the modicum of power he has now. Unable to rely on the loyalty of his subjects, he has been forced to make alliances and to allow the creation of the City Council.
As it is, the Royal Court is constantly working towards returning their strength, focusing in particular on sending out expeditions to the outside of the walls.
Evil tongues say that King Jeremiah himself is merely a puppet for the feuding Queen and Court Wizard, who hate each other.
