Bushi

The Bushi are the hereditary military, nobility, and officer caste of the Rock Gnome Empire.  They are well paid, and kept on retainer by their Hankō, where they hold high prestige and special privileges, so long as they continue to adhere to the strict moral code of Hagakure.

Structure

In order to be named Hankō, one must practice Hagakure and be a member of the Bushi.

Each Bushi serves his Hankō until their death, and shall continue to serve that family so long as it exists; they are honor-bound as warriors to protect their Hankō and the heirs of the clan, paying any price including their lives.

No member of the Bushi stands above any other, unless they also be titled as Hankō or as the supreme leader, Taishō; in the eyes of the Bushi, each man (or woman), is an equal in battle.

Culture

The Bushi follow the strict codes of Hagakure; so long as they adhere to it, they are afforded many luxuries and privileges.

They are to maintain their honor in all things, and to treat anyone, friend and foe alike, with the respect due their station.

Above all, however, the Bushi are ferocious warriors, often trained from birth or soon thereafter to take up the sword in defense of their Mura or their Hankō and their Han.
