Dragonfire Pass

A treacherous mountain pass through the Himhineldar Shel Mountain Range leading from Stormhold into the Desolate Wastes, often used by pilgrims travelling to the Shrine of the World Dragon.

Geography

Rugged and rocky, Dragonfire Pass leads from the fertile farmlands on the east of the Himhineldar Shel Mountain Range, through the mountain range, into the Desolate Wastes beyond.  Inhospitable, desolate, uninviting, and dangerous.

Ecosystem

Dry, drought conditions exist for the majority of the year in Dragonfire Pass, and when the rains do fall, it becomes a treacherous place, flooding and killing anyone in the pass in instantaneous, flash flood incidents.
When the flood recede, for a short time, the pass becomes lush and green with plant life exploding to life, only to slowly wither away and die again in the baking sun.

Fauna & Flora

Dangerous lizards, snakes, and scorpions abound in the pass, but, otherwise, it is fairly devoid of life.  Birds of prey and scavengers circle the skies, and numbers of small rodents can occasionally be seen outside their burrows.

Tourism

Thousands of tourists make the dangerous trek through Dragonfire pass each year, travelling to the Desolate Wastes to pay homage at the Shrine of the World Dragon.  Even with the protection of many knightly orders, hundreds of them die each month due to flora, fauna, and any manner of accidents.
And yet, the tourism continues, unabated.
