Ilithi Medical Auxiliary

The Ilithi Infantry has adopted the practice of many other armies, in bringing clerics and chaplains along as part of their ranks.  The Major General has gone one step further, creating an entire triage and auxiliary division to assist in recovering and rehabilitating the wounded.  These brave men and women go into combat alongside their brethren, often unarmed or only with a dagger, to provide valuable and often life-saving assistance in the field.

Composition

Manpower

At last count, the medical auxiliary contained nearly 65,000 souls, nearly all of whom were surprisingly not of the clerical profession or magically inclined; they are simply healers, herbalists, doctors, and field medics doing everything they can to make a difference.

Equipment

Each field medic carries a fairly standard kit into the field, but many have adopted bandoliers, bracers, leg wraps, boot straps, and any other sort of equipment they can salvage or craft in order to carry more specialized gear into the field.  A full pavisse shield is often carried, to both provide cover whilst tending to the wounded and, if necessary, to become a stretcher to bring a man off the field for surgery.

Weaponry

Though there is nothing prohibiting it, most of the field medics don't carry much in the way of weaponry; usually a dagger or baton for self defense (the baton often doubles as a twist for a tourniquet, and the dagger a knife for cutting wire, bandages, and the like.)  Many, however, have adopted a stonebow, a crossbow with a cup attachment for launching rocks; often it's used to hurl alchemical flasks, usually smoke, across a battlefield to allow them to cross the field without being seen.

Structure

The field medics are assigned to work alongside the infantry, however, and follow a similar command structure.  Their ultimate authority is the Chief Medical Officer, who, unlike many other contemporary commanders, is often in the field, manning a field hospital.
