Ilithi Volunteer Service

Not much more than a half-trained militia, the Ilithi Volunteer Service is a program which exists in almost every city, town, and hamlet within Ilithi.  It serves to give basic training and understanding to those citizens who are willing to fight in time of need, for their town, or any of their neighbors.

Composition

As the volunteer service is just that, there is no pay, no rank, and no way of mustering them for a head count.  They are simply men and women from all walks of life who have given their time to learn how to defend their homes and, in time of need, will do so.

Equipment

If they have any armor, it's likely cobbled together pieces from relatives who once served, or perhaps a simple leather jerkin.  A few of the volunteers are previous soldiers and have a suit of custom fitted armor, though in many cases, the armor doesn't fit quite the way it used to anymore...

Weaponry

Most of the volunteers have a good, sturdy axe at home they use to chop wood; why not use it to chop an orc, too? The majority of them are competent with a bow and arrow, able to bring down a deer or a rabbit to put food on the table. The principle is the same, though a rabbit isn't, normally, charging at you with a spear in it's hands and murder in it's eyes.

Tactics

Unfortunately, as if often the case with militia and levy units, they lack any real tactics.  Should the need arise to do anything more than man the walls of the city, the most likely outcome will be mob-tactics and mop-up formations; very little training means very little use of proper tactics.

Training

They've been taught how not to stab themselves with a sword, and most likely have been show how to operate a scorpion or ballista, but otherwise, it's survival instincts and pure adrenaline to keep these rabble alive.  And yet, they're willing to do it, to protect their homes.

You're here, on this wall, to defend your homes.  And I tell you now, if they get through, there won't be a home to protect anymore.  So, give 'em everything you've got, because they won't stop until we're dead.  We're all that stands between those orcs and our children.  And I plan on seeing my daughter grow up!
