Varan II was the second king of Ilyria. Elected after his father’s death, Varan II’s reign was largely a continuation of his father’s policies. Content to leave ruling to his advisors, Varan II largely spent his time hunting. He traveled frequently to Aurestals, where he hunted in the surrounding forests.
Death
Varan II died unexpectedly following a hunting accident in which he was gored by a boar. His daughter and heir, Antonia Dyecolt, was considered too young to rule. The electoral college then chose Marden, Duke of Aurestals as king. For years after, Antonia believed Marden was behind her father’s death. She continually challenged his position as king, claiming she should have been chosen instead.
