Vadumites - Mountain Dwarves Species in Kornax | World Anvil

Vadumites - Mountain Dwarves

Vadumites are often called Mountain Dwarves because they tend to live in inaccessable regions of mountain ranges. They can, however, be found in other areas, as well. They are very rare compared to their dvaer cousins, and they spend a much greater proportion of their time keeping to themselves within their warrens.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Cranium

Like that of their daer cousins, the cranium of Nani eremiticus is identical to and indistinguishable from that of homo sapiens.

Musculoskeletal

The frame and musculature of the vadumites resembles that of their dvaer cousins. Like the dvaer, they have very heavy skeletal strucutre, and their skeletons are proportionally wider than that of most other humanoids. Where they differ from their Hill Dwarf relatives is that their torsos are about 5 percent longer in proportion to their limbs than the skeletons of dvaer. Though this is a small difference, it is an important point of distiction. Heavy muscles overlay their frames, granting them greater strength than might otherwise be expected from creatures of their size.

Digestive System

The digestive system of the vadumite, as is the case with all dwarves, is unusually efficient at filtering toxins. This makes the vadumites resistant to poison. It also is where they gain their legendary capacity to "hold" their alcohol.

Genetics and Reproduction

Vadumites reproduce sexually. They can mate successfully with dvaer, but the offspring they produce will be sterile.

Growth Rate & Stages

Vadumites mature physically in fifteen to twenty years, but they are not cognitively or emotionally fully developed until about he fiftieth year of age. They can reproduce until about their two hundredth year of life, and a fertile female will bear a child about every thirty years, on average.

Ecology and Habitats

Vadumites live in underground communities and rarely venture to the surface.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Their diet consists of mossess, fungi, and lichens, supplemented by small subterranean animals they catch or raise for meat.

Behaviour

Vadumites are reclusive and distrustful of most other species. There is open interaction between them and local dvaer communities, and less frequently with Rock Gnomes, when they live nearby.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Vadumites develop thick facial hair. There is no discernable difference in the facial hair of a male or female vadumite.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking

Vadumites have pale skin tinged with red. They grow brown, auburn, and red hair. Their eyes are usually golden brown in color, though darker brown eyes exist, as well.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Like all of the nani, vadumites have adapted to their subterranean warrens and have developed the ability to see in dim light and darkness.
