Republic of Calemdar
The free Republic, the Jewel of Korrisia, the noble Republic of Calemdar. A nation that has withstood some of the harshest and most vicious events that the world ever saw, a people who have always stood to face the dangers that lurk from within their world, and come from other worlds too.
The Republic of Calemdar is a several-centuries old nation that was originally formed as its antithesis. The Empire of Calemdar was created by Emperor Uriel Calemdar the Bloodspiller, one of the most gifted and aggressive generals the world has ever seen. He brutally carved out his realm and declared that it would stand for all ages. Uriel was the first of many emperors who would continue the cycle of violence, oppression, and tyranny.
The Empire was eventually dissolved from within, not through rebellion, not through collapse, but through radical and liberal laws passed by the only one with true power to make a difference, its Emperor. Emperor Andrius Lildor, last of the line of Emperors sacrificed all of his political power by dissolving the Empire and the position of Emperor, making it forever illegal for one to declare themselves King or Emperor of Calemdar. Lildor retired to a farm where he was joined by thousands who loved and adored him, leading to the founding of one of the Republic's greatest cities, Lildor.
In the year 2579 EOT Calemdar was attacked and the capitol city burned to the ground, many of the denizens and all members of the Calemdarian Senate were annihilated. The city quickly moved and has been rebuilt in New Calemdar, many citizens see it as a chance to start anew and build upon nothing, instead of having to build over the shadow of their wicked past.
In the year 465 AH, the Republic was dissolved by Chancellor Aelzan, and reformed into the Northern Empire. After the Empire had conquered all sovereign nations of the planet, it was reformed once more into the Empire of Korrisia.
Structure
High Council of Calemdar
The ruling council that oversees all matters of Calemdar. These individuals are elected by popular vote from the people of Calemdar, only citizens may vote. Lord Chancellor - Goryn Luidhak (Half-Orc Paladin of Redemption) - A noble and kind creature, Goryn comes from small beginnings, a poor and impoverished child of a human mother, her Orc lover was arrested and executed by the City Watch of Waterdeep. Goryn emigrated to Calemdar on his 16th nameday, and sought new beginnings. He eventually found himself before the Temple of Bahamut, serving as an initiate in the Order of the Platinum Scale. Goryn quickly climbed the ranks to become a Knight Commander, until he sought a different future, one in politics. Goryn was a spokesperson for the many half-races that did not garner enough attention from the Council, and this earned him a place on the Senate of Calemdar, where after just three short years he was named as Lord Chancellor. Commander of War - Silverfin (Silver Dragonborn Fighter) - Silverfin allegedly comes from the Banished Lands across the Espal Sea, traveling with a small band of refugees, he quickly distinguished himself as a solider after volunteering in the Calemdarian Militia during the Hobgoblin Siege of Lindorin in 432 AoH. Sealord - Waerick Beldann - Retired pirate who flipped his life completely around, serving the Calemdarian Navy. (It's said he was a double-agent the entire time, but don't tell him that). Coinmaster - Lord Feck Glitterbeard (Halfling) - A shrewd and gifted businessman who operates mostly in the metal/weapons trade. Watcher - Iaflor (Scourge Aasimar) - Iaflor is a being of pure mystery, nothing is known about him, and most things people claim to know is a lie. It is said that Iaflor has over two-hundred false identities, and is widely known in most circles. Lord Advisor - Elarual Windmaker (Male Human) - Elarual is one of the foremost experts on Evocation magic, and is the retired Mage Lord of the Amber College (Focuses on the Lore of Beasts and Nature) she was to be named the next Archwizard until she retired and took the ceremonial position as Lord Advisor. Senate Consul [Ceremonial position] - Vilden Meikhar (Human Battlemaster) - Senate Consul position is ceremonial but carries a lot of respect. Vilden is the former Lord Chancellor of Calemdar, he stepped down after his wife's mysterious disappearance, but still holds an immense amount of political weight. Steward of Storms - Issleif Aevarsson (Goliath) - The highest office of the Temple of Valkur, the Captain of the Waves. Steward of Life - Ovessli Marlaug (Protector Aasimar) - Highest office of the Temple of Serenrae, goddess of healing and life. Steward of Platinum - Thorshor Malyr (Silver Dragonborn) - Highest office of the Temple of Bahamut, god of justice and goodness. Steward Malyr is widely beloved and and respected by many, she is both a kind soul and valiant warrior on the field of battle. Thorshor stands out from all other stewards, as she still holds ceremonies in the Temples across Korrisia, and still performs the ancient pilgrimages.Senate of Calemdar
The Senate is an order of nearly two-hundred elected representatives from across Calemdar. All locations get the same number of senators, as to avoid manipulating voting lines. Senators have the power to call upon votes and make requests of the Council, but it is the Council of Calemdar that has the final say in all matters. The only way the Senate can overrule the Council is with a 2/3 vote from the populace, which is a lengthy and difficult path to take. In the history of the Republic has two votes been called for, one was to conscript and dispatch the Purple Shields to assist Alithanar in its reconstruction, the other was done in recent history and led by Lord Chancellor Luidhak to solidify the Half-Race Care Laws, which guaranteed equal rights and treatment for half-races.Military of Calemdar
The Purple Shields, as most Calemdarians refer to them are the standing members of the military, and serve as members of the City Watch. The Military of Calemdar is open to all Calemdarians, and is often a track used by immigrants to gain citizenship. After four-years service in the Calemdarian military, one may gain citizenship.Military Structure
High General - There is usually only one or two chosen High Generals, these individuals usually must present awestriking military and battle prowess, High Generals report directly to the High Council. Often times in cases of war, Council members serve in these roles. High Generals may command over any portion of the Calemdarian military. In most major moments of history, these individuals have been great heroes who were called upon to defend the Republic. Generals - Chosen members of the Council or officers who distinguished themselves as officers in the military. Generals are assigned to units by the Thane of War.Public Agenda
