Hyp upon Treath

Hyp upon Treath is one of the oldest Weallander settlements outside of Estomi. It was founded by the rulers of Wédon somewhere in the fifth century PT.

Wédonian Rule

The city served as a valuable trading hub to Wédon, where goods from the Continent were ferried to, and then exported further west. Together with its Parental city, it controlled passage into the Steel Cliff Sea.   Its position behind the Cæpton Peninsula protected it from rougher seas and storms during years of high tide.   Wédon's small overseas empire crumbled when the city came into conflict with the Empire of Issiz. Wédon leaned heavily on its overseas territories, which disgruntled the still prospering colonies. Hyp upon Treath slowly slipped away from Wédon's influence, and became formally independent in 101 PT.

Independent Rule

Hyp upon Treath grew out of Wédon's shadow following its independence. It became one of many wealthy Weallander city states of Notos. Its relatively distant northern position compared to other Weallander settlements on Notos, saw it spared from many wars fought in the city state period.   Hyp upon Treath was allied with Cæpton in the Weallander Wars of Notos. After the victory of the Cæpton Walceaster alliance, Hyp upon Treath became increasingly subservient to Cæpton. Hyp's nobility did not wish to lose influence to the more powerful Cæpton, and thus allied themselves with the invading Asterians.

Asterian and Etaikí rule

The Asterian conquest of the Cæp Isles and Notos was completed in 340 MT. The Hypian navy was instrumental in the Asterian victories against Cæpton and its allies. As a reward for its aid, the city was allowed a generous amount of autonomy under Asterian rule, a luxury which it enjoyed until the Etaikí revolt.   The ruling nobility of Hyp upon Treath offered no meaningful resistance to Etaikí aggression, seeking to retain their passive autonomy.   The city now flies the Etaikí banner, and its ruling council of nobles is suffering from increasing pressure and oversight from the Etaikí board, leading to quiet calls for a return to Asterian rule.
