Wenlen (Win-Lin)

The Craftsman God

Wenlen, daughter of Bailum, is a patron to craftsmen. Smiths, masons, carpenters, and even engineers are considered blessed with insight from Wenlen. Her blessings are then delivered by mortals and spread to whoever uses their wares. Families owe her thanks for housing, warriors for their armor, and priests for their icons. Due to her father's domain of justice, she is inseparable from the concept herself. Each product crafted by an artisan is a sum of its uses and users. No item made with passion is truly dead, and it will always live on to tell a story, making Wenlen a god of legacy as well. A sword crafted in her name may be used to fight a just war or slay a family in their sleep; items that commit acts such as the latter are better abandoned. Most believe that this is achieved with curses. An item meant for good that commits an atrocity will be forever tainted by a curse designed by Wenlen herself to dissuade individuals from using it.   Wenlen posits the idea that legacy is forged by acts, and no one will be remembered for not taking action. While her father claims that a person is the sum of their actions, Wenlen states that your life or actions can be reflected in the world around you. In 500 years, you will be gone, but what of your legacy? Your actions can be embodied in an instrument that swayed a baron, a sword that saved a priest, or a house that provided for the homeless. In 500 years, even if the item has lost all recorded connection to you, it still holds the spirit of what you did with it.

In Myth

Wenlen is a common character throughout stories in Ohdaufeen mythology. In many myths and plays, individuals may find themselves in a corner and require the help of Wenlen. This typically comes in the form of an extraordinary item that solves the protagonists' problems and is typically considered a lazy writing tactic today. Perhaps her most famous role in a story is in the myth known as "Reincarnate Promise, Vorehem's Voyage." Wenlen would assist her father by crafting a legendary and indestructible ship known as "Vorehem." The vessel would be used to traverse the Waters of Taev.   When she is not used to resolve the conflict in a mythological tale, she serves as a counselor for her father. She typically serves as a foil for Bailum when he grows enraged at acts of humanity, reminding him of the nuance in the lives of mortals.

Conflict with Dwarves

In areas with a large dwarvish population, conflict has been brewed by the presence of Wenlen. Humans often push this god onto dwarves as if they would appreciate a god so close to their skill set, yet the dwarves have their own deities that possess similar domains with entirely different symbolic implications. Most of the conflict is entirely social, creating more problems with neighbors than legislation. The pinnacle of this discourse can be seen in Euvurcrest, the capital of Eldurgrund.
