Bal Kaeren
Clad in wooden armour, these knights defend Al Renya. They have existed longer than the Renyan Unitary, claiming their roots from the travellers that defended the Alkken.
There are three schools of combat for a Wood Knight:
Tactics
Wood Knights travel in trios, each is a skilled combatant. One will lead in combat, one will be a quartermaster and one will be in training. When larger squads are used they go in multiples of three (so 3, 9, 27, 81 and 243 are common troop numbers).Weapon Arts
A method of fighting and a set of rules for dueling, the Weapon Arts are three schools of combat techniques that are a long standing tradition that are still in development. With their neighbors in Bast having better equipment than them, the development of skills seem to be the best way to keep a level playing field. Duels have evolved to be a good way of settling disputes and keeping up practice in times of peace. There are three schools of combat for a Wood Knight:
- Quarterstaff - The most common and versatile weapon. It makes use of strikes and thrusts with practitioners using both ends of the staff to attack.
- Ironwood Mace - Large and heavy, these maces are commonly used in the northern ward as blows can rattle people, even inside metal armour.
- Wooden Sword - Used only in the south, these weapons focus on having a sharp point that is useful against lightly armoured foes.
