Diilbiish Tsiwabeka (dilbish tsIwabɛka)
Deep in the wilds of Nehziimdehl lies this small but bustling village. Most of its inhabitants are strix, though there are many half-strix folks too, with fully non-strix folks being common enough to see but still a bit of an anomaly. It's clear the area was made by and for winged folks too, with many things existing up in the incredibly tall, old, thick trees the village is built as a part of. Though there are walkways and some buildings on the ground, most things are airborne to some extent. The roofs are sloped to keep rain from pooling, most buildings have outcroppings made to perch on, and the lower roads are less maintained. The town is most dense in its southern to central area, and doesn't stretch south much, and homes southward are much more sparse than the occasional ones that crop up further north. There is a similar line of more homes in the west, with the westward wing of the city appearing to be slightly more interested in tech-- this is also the home of the few metallurgists.
The center is divided into upper center and lower center, with great heavy moss forming such a thick canopy that it can be walked on by most average sized races with no worry. Upper city center is both a social hub and takeoff point for flight, as well as a protective area, as it's very easily defended. Lower city center is the primary hub for taverns and trade, and most visitors stay here as opposed to upper center. Most private quarters are also on the upper level of the city, where lower quarters are generally used by mixed families or folks with other movement difficulties. right beside city center flows Kiiwad Beka, the waterpower of which is used to power some of the machines in the west end.
While some in the area are distrustful of adventurers, they're generally considered a part of life and are treated as equals, and most folks are thankful to see them, as they tend to spice up life and bring curious news of the world outside the island. Because of the sheer distance to get anywhere else, many live their entire lives on the island, though it's frequent enough that some may leave to the beach and wait for a passing ship to get a ferry to the mainland that it's certainly not unheard of.
Government
The inhabitants aren't particularly fussed with having anyone specific in charge, but usually have a leader for several different walks of life- an elder with a long memory of what the village has been like before, the strongest hunter, the greatest healer, the best druid, the finest tailor, the cleverest tinkerer, and the most well regarded chef or bartender. Though these titles exist, they're generally informal, and given socially. This is visualized through secondary feathers being worn around the waist of chosen leaders in a belt and tied on with thread of the color corresponding to the title the person believes they should hold, and are added by strix who believe they're best suited for the job. Non-strix inhabitants often carve their name into a piece of thin wood to add to these belts. The worth of these belts is then at least partially decided by whose feathers and names are incorporated.
