Island of Antara
Description
During the war between the Gods and Elder Titans, they shed much of their blood and flesh which rained down upon Levantis. Most of this either dissipated into raw, destructive energy or formed new species such as the powerful Dragons, but not all of it did. In one particular instance, the Gods Cinarus and Argor managed to work together to cut of all the limbs of the Titan Ysla shortly before the sealing. These pieces were too large to form into anything else, as they still remembered being part of the whole and wanted to return to being so. They regenerate to maintain their shape, so that one day they may be reclaimed by their rightful owner. Even after the Titans were sealed in the Far Realm, they have continued to do so. However, the corrupting influence of the limbs has tainted the island that sprawls around them. The plant- and wildlife quickly died out or was corrupted to be something similar to aberrations, and the island is surrounded by a pale, white mist that induces madness and disease in anyone that tries to cross it. If they even manage to cross it, with how disorienting all the hallucinations are. So while it is not impossible to sail through the mists, it is dangerous and disorienting which is why there has been very little contact between Antara and the rest of the world. Even the Gods have difficulty peering through the mists to keep track of what goes on on the island, which is part of why they have left the place be for now. The people of the island can no longer farm crops and husbandry is difficult too, so they have turned to a new food source: the Titan's flesh. They have built wooden walkways and transport lines around the limbs and an entire city state has sprouted up centered around the limbs. They have instituted a group of ritual butchers who carve up the flesh each day and the waters around the area are a pale green from the constant stream of Titan blood (which is yellowish-green, not red). They even worship the limbs as pieces of their God Sfaizo, the God of Butchery and Bloodshed who they believe cast down his flesh so that they may be able to survive on the unforgiving island. The job of butchering the Titan limbs is a coveted and privileged position, and the people engage in frequent duels to determine who is worthy. But above them sits the true ruler of the city of Pligitas, an Ancient Green Dragon called Tellaphrenos who wrested control of this region long ago. It has long gone mad from the centuries of consumption of Titan flesh and the people of Pligitas have to attend to its every whim, or risk being eaten and having their blood mixed in with the streams constantly spilling from the streets already. Its desires are highly irregular and inconsistent, and entire cults have formed around trying to divine what it is exactly that it's trying to achieve. Lastly, the plant-life and animal life in the region has also adapted to the unusual circumstances on the island. The waters are filled to the brim with carnivorous scavengers that munch on the bloody, fleshy remains and most of the plant-life can sustain itself decently well on the Titan blood. The forests are filled with a myriad of predators, from psycho-predatory beasts that drain the minds of others with a predilection for the seriously mad, to aberrant trees adorned with dozens of eyes that have come to sentience with a hunger for blood of whatever kind they can find.Unique Landmarks
The corrupting influence of the Titan limbs has irreversibly changed the island into a place of horror and madness, with fearsome predators and terrain ranging from noxious bogs, toxic mudslides and bubbling peatland rivers. The mists surrounding the island seem to also contain the sunlight, turning the island into a sweltering, tropical wasteland. The Grave Moors
Back when Pligitas first started to grow and Tellaphrenos had not established himself as the supreme ruler, there were many different groups within the factions of the budding city. One of the largest of these were The Beyonders, who wanted to explore further outwards and through the mists. They seceded from the rest of the city and tried to gain control of the eastern part of the island. But the others wouldn't let that slide so easily and it turned into a bloody civil war which The Beyonders lost after nearly all of them got slaughtered. Nowadays a small quarry outpost is built on top of the site of the battle, now buried under layers of discarded ground.Geographical Features
The area where the battle took place was not far east of Pligitas in between several bogs. It is rich in tropical peat which has the discolored the water of the bogs around it. Occasionally the turf diggers find corpses while they dig up the peat, which are then discarded into the waters of the bogs themselves. This often causes the rise of resentful undead.Flora and Fauna The peat swamp forests of the area are completely waterlogged, preventing decomposition of plant matter. It is home to deep peat beds and trees up to sixty meters high. Like many of the forests on the island, these trees often display mutations and there are often false trees among them, which one will often only find out once they see the eyes pop open on the trunk and feel the branches already curling around their necks.
Virulent Flats
The corrupted and poisoned south of the island is pockmarked by acidic pits of muck, and in a constant state of eruption and decay. Despite numerous attempts, the Pligitans have had trouble maintaining a permanent outpost here due to the detrimental environmental effects and hostile plant-life.Geographical Features
While the land is impacted and poisoned, it is also home to precious smectite and illite clays of various hues. They must be dug out with care however as toxins seep into the clay. During times of massive rainfall, the clay soil partially liquefies and causes violent, caustic landslides that sweep away anyone unlucky enough to be caught in it out towards the maddening mists on the coast.Flora and Fauna
The region is home to the Kreatogon, a mutated plant species that is both poisonous and carnivorous, and at least partially responsible for the toxic state of the clay ground. They can also spray an acidic substance to weaken prey that get close before snatching them with their mucilage-covered vines. Still, this area is the largest stretch of unbroken land on the island, and thus retains some wild-life despite the presence of these vicious plants.Blisterrun
To the northwest of Pligitas lies an elevated plateau that holds a swell of gas that pushes the groundwater up from under the noxious crust to the surface where it mixes with the rainfall into a bubbling, steaming wasteland basin.Geographical Features
The basin in the center often boils over when the ground temperature rises or the rainfall increases, and when it does it spills over the escarpments and flows down into several smaller ponds and even a river that at times reaches all the way to the northern coast.Flora and Fauna
While the water is toxic, so is most of the island and the plant- and wild-life has adapted. There are plenty of forests surrounding the area and the water draws animals as well. What dominates the area however, are the nests of the Oneiropho. These consciousness-eaters are dangerous to all except mindless undead, especially in large groups when they can quickly drain someone's mind and leave them helpless regardless of their actual fighting capacity.
