From Falas to Aberella Report
General Summary
The party starts aboard The Sea Falcon, on their way to Aberella .
Zela is very confused about everything around her and is terrified to learn that boats can sink.
After trying to comfort his friend, Kash addresses the party to ask if they've ever heard of anything similar to the psionic powers he is starting to manifest
Rahvin reluctantly tells him the story of the man who came into his bar, claiming that his child was born without a soul. He goes onto describe similar symptoms as displayed by Kash, and states that the mayor of the town the man hailed from - a Vespmaran town - destroyed "the well," and since then, there have been less and less children born with the affliction. Though disquietingly not all.
Kash starts to realize what he is and storms to his room for an early sleep.
Meanwhile, Zela asksAlynn to help her construct a magical ring using a griffin's claw.
At first, they ask Captain Irons for permission to use Alynn's forge on a wooden ship – a request that he denies in alarm after Alynn states honestly that the forge fire would spill a bit. Zela kicks him in the shin, but forge or no forge, she sets to work using her own jeweler's tools.
In the morning, Alynn interrupts Kash's stress reading to ask for a bit of martial training, especially with armor. Kash generously agrees.
The ship suddenly bucks in place as though they've hit something in the open sea.
Alynn, Kash, and Zela load up on Rahvin's orange juice before setting off to investigate the strange moment. Rahvin makes omelets and casually inspects for damage to the ship from below. Zela asks Kash if she should scout the water, but without waiting for a reply leaps into the sea. It's about then that they all learn that Zela cannot swim. Alynn vortex warps Zela to drag her back onto the ship. It is about then that the Freshmen notice something moving underneath the ship... a large, shark-like creature. As it slams against the boat again, the party leaps into action to fight it off.
Alynn shouts out to Zela, asking if she's ever heard of a seal. She says no but then remembers a page of The Very Happy Octopus (a picture book made for her by Kash) that has one and thinks that she understands Alynn's plan! So she disguises herself as a baby seal and jumps over the side. Again, unable to swim. Rahvin tries to stop her, but he's too slow and goes right with her into the drink. Alynn sighs and shakes their head. What they had wanted was for Zela to create an illusion of the shark, but it's too late now. They bless Zela with a sanctuary to hopefully protect her.
Just before hitting the water, Rahvin summons his spirit guardians: a band of three dogs, a maine coon, and a murderous little teacup kitten named Beanstalk. Unfortunately it's not enough to dissuade the shark and Zela gets a bite taken out of her. She enlarges the vessel to keep fire on the party, and vortex warpaboard
Rahvin reaches out as the shark strikes towards him and Zela again, and its snout collides with his palm. From the point of contact, spidery webs of black rot begin to spider out across the fish. The inflicted wounds are enough to get the shark to back off, and as it swims away, Kash leaps down from the balcony of the Falcon and skewers right through its head. He holds tight, riding the shark like a bronco as he rends his blade this way and that.
Rahvin pulls out his rosary and with a quick prayer manages to send a guiding bolt right into the creature's flank, killing it. As Alynn now is able to bring the corpse on board for them and Patent to harvest, Rahvin realizes with alarm that Zela's lack of experience with water has finally caught up with them and the little kobold has started to drown. He pulls her up onto the boat and, after a bit of cpr from Rahvin, Zela spends her time with Kash vomiting salt water back into the ocean. Rahvin makes the pair goodberry smoothies - which give Zela a brain freeze. Kash massages her head, not quite knowing what he's doing but hoping that this'll make it better.
On the fourth day, the ship is set upon by a thick fog. Worried that it may be a magical trap, Alynn casts out his divine sense of magic, but thankfully this seems to just be bad weather. Rahvin and Ommi - fueled by French toast - help the captain navigate through it to the beautiful and bustling port of Aberella where the party immediately takes in several beautiful, opulent sights.
