The Dragon Teeth Report

General Summary

Rahvin Ashdust awakens into a dream of his wife, Anwyn, who charges him to take care of the kobold Zela the Liar and Kashmeel Mazigh. She is kind and blesses him as her champion, though Rahvin insists on traveling back home before adventuring with these new children.   As he dreams, in the kitchen there is a different sort of meeting of the minds. Zela, creeping in for the hopes of finding food, sees a large silver mirrored construct near the table, along with Alynn Agethe, an inventor from the country of Northland, who has come a long way to meet with his friend Newler Dreyfuss. Ommi, swooping overhead, lands on the construct and looks at it curiously, scraping it with his long, sharp pseudodragon claws.   This immediately frightens Zela, who rushes in and begins beating on the construct in hysterics, begging it not to eat her "pseusodragon" friend. Alynn, bemused and worried himself, steps in and tries to calm the situation, but this doesn't work. It is only when Rahvin awakes that they are able to find relative calm. Alynn introduces the construct as Patent, and though there seems to be no love lost between the automaton and Zela and Ommi.   While they eat, across town Kash awakens at home, and hears his family downstairs getting ready for school.   He goes downstairs, where his cousin Willow comments on it. He shows it to his uncle Justus as well, but Justus thinks there's not much oddness to this necklace. Just a cheap party trinket. Still, he promises to investigate and takes the necklace from Kash.   Kash suddenly realizes he's late for school and rushes out, meeting his friend Mola Aubert outside. They walk together to school, talking about Kash's dance with Allie at the Sunflower Ball and about what they'll do after they graduate on Highsummer, the first day of the new year. Kash wants to go back home and join the same force his parents work for, while Mola is less sure what he wants to do.   Still, they get to school and split up, heading to their classes individually.   At a study hall break, Kash enters into the library, where Allie is also studying. They share furtive glances and shy smiles from across the room, but do not speak to one another. Kash, meanwhile, is busy drafting his new book - a more adult story, but with all his beautiful illustrations. While he's doing this, he unfortunately misses something important (perception check: 10), and Allie leaves the library.   Mola, meanwhile, has been hiding in the bookshelves and watched the entire awkward exchange, and joins Kash at his table afterwards. They joke about Kash's love life for a moment when suddenly Mola gets hit in the back of the head with a spitball! Turning, they both notice a group of three kids; two half-elves and a human, from the University of Sensus and the School of Medies, who are laughing about their prank. Their names are: Hunter (human, Sensus), Tyrnan (half-elf, Sensus), and Eirwood (half-elf, Medies). They seem rather shameless about their bullying and upon being confronted about it when Kash and Alynn are on their way home from school, are brazen about their disrespect for both of the students, taunting them and telling them to both go back home (both are from Vespmar). Hunter even challenges Kash to hit him, which, riled up, Kash does - and scores a critical hit, knocking Hunter the fuck out! The other boys scatter, and as Hunter lies on the ground, unconscious, Zela, Alynn, and Rahvin happen upon them, coming from the other direction.   Rahvin helps tend to Hunter, but when the young man comes to, he very quickly runs off. Alynn notices Zela's dragon tooth necklace, and immediately catches onto the magical nature of the item. He offers to make bracelets for Zela and the other members of the party, and Kash gives Zela his gold dragon scale. A hilarious misunderstanding occurs where Zela interprets this as the kobold equivalent of a corsage and thinks that Kash is attempting to ask her out on a date, but the misunderstanding is never cleared up.   They continue on to the forge, where Alynn manages to make bracelets for everyone but Zela, where he is stymied by the dragon scale and fails to make an acceptable adornment for the kobold.   But that is not the most significant development, no.   As Mola stares into the flames of the forge, his mind is taken elsewhere. Out of time, out of space, to the world forge, where he stares into the foundries of creation itself. The secrets of the universe pour into him, and it's too much for his mortal brain to handle - he screams, and light pours from his eyes, his mouth, his fingertips, searching anyway to escape.... and that's where the session ended!
