Seagate

Districts

Harborwatch

The heartbeat of Seagate, Harborwatch is the city's bustling port district. The air is filled with the smell of saltwater, fish, and the sound of creaking ships and shouting sailors. Harborwatch houses the main docks, warehouses, shipyards, and merchant guilds. It's where traders from across the seas bring exotic goods, making it the economic engine of the city.
  • Maritime Trade: The main hub for importing and exporting goods, with warehouses and merchant guild offices.
  • Shipbuilding and Repair: Seagate’s shipyards are famous for their durable ships, and sailors come from across the kingdom for repairs.
  • Fishing Industry: The heart of Seagate’s fishing operations, providing much of the food for the city.
  • Taverns and Inns: Catering to sailors and travelers, the district has many lively taverns and cheap inns.

The Highpoint

Sitting atop a hill that overlooks the city and the sea, the Highpoint is the political and cultural center of Seagate. Here, the Duke’s castle, known as Stormspire Keep, towers above the rest of the city, with wide streets leading to noble estates, government buildings, and cultural institutions like theaters and museums.
  • Stormspire Keep: The seat of power for Duke Varian Stormtide, where he governs Seagate.
  • Noble Estates: The homes of Seagate’s wealthiest families, often involved in maritime trade or politics.
  • Cultural Landmarks: Including theaters, a museum of naval history, and prestigious institutions for the arts.
  • Council Hall: The building where the city’s council meets to discuss trade policies, naval defense, and local governance.

Tideway Market

A sprawling market district near the center of the city, Tideway Market is a place of constant activity. Here, vendors sell everything from fresh fish and produce to rare spices and exotic goods brought by ships. The marketplace is a maze of stalls, permanent shops, and bustling crowds, where deals are made, and fortunes change hands daily.
  • Market Stalls: Selling food, clothing, and imported goods, this is the go-to place for both commoners and nobles seeking something new.
  • Merchant Guilds: Many merchant guilds have their headquarters or offices here, overseeing trade and commerce.
  • Street Performers and Entertainers: The market is lively with musicians, jugglers, and street magicians entertaining the crowds.
  • The Black Market: Beneath the surface, Tideway Market has a thriving underbelly where smugglers, fences, and thieves trade in stolen or illegal goods.

Seacliff Ward

Perched on the northern cliffs overlooking the sea, Seacliff Ward is known for its picturesque views and its naval presence. The ward is home to the navy’s officers and barracks, as well as military academies where Seagate trains its future sailors and officers.
  • Naval Academy: Where the next generation of naval officers are trained in seamanship, navigation, and naval tactics.
  • Navy Barracks: Housing Seagate’s navy and acting as the defense hub for the city’s maritime forces.
  • Lighthouse of Stormhaven: An iconic structure at the edge of the cliff, this lighthouse helps guide ships into the port and serves as a lookout for potential threats.
  • Coastal Fortifications: Defenses such as cannons and watchtowers dot the cliffs to protect Seagate from sea-bound threats.

Riverside Docks

Located along the banks of the River Seawind, this district is primarily industrial and agricultural. Riverside Docks is where goods from the southern prairies and river trade routes are received before being transported into the city or exported by sea.
  • River Trade: Riverside Docks are vital for bringing in grain, livestock, and other goods from inland Silverhelm.
  • Agricultural Processing: Mills, granaries, and breweries process raw materials from the prairies into products for sale in the city.
  • Dockworkers and Fishermen: It’s also a quieter fishing hub, and many of the city’s dockworkers live here.
  • Fishermen’s Guild: A small but important guild that helps organize the fishing industry and represents the city’s fishermen.

Geography

  • Coastal City: Seagate is located on the western coast of Silverhelm, nestled between the Great Silverhelm Sea and the vast prairies to the south. To the east lies the remaining edge of the Silverhelm forests, though they thin considerably near the city.
  • Port & Harbors: The city has a sprawling harbor lined with docks, warehouses, and shipyards. Its port is naturally protected by a large bay and several smaller islands, which serve as outposts and lookout points for the city's defense. The bay's waters are relatively calm, making it a key hub for trade ships and fishing vessels alike.
  • Beaches and Cliffs: To the north of the city are tall cliffs that offer a panoramic view of the sea, while to the south, sandy beaches stretch for miles, dotted with small fishing villages that supply the city with fresh catches.
  • Prairie Transition: The farther south you go from Seagate, the more the land shifts from coastal to the rolling plains of Silverhelm's southern prairie. This region is dotted with rivers and small lakes, supporting both agriculture and inland trade.
  • River Seawind: The River Seawind flows just south of the city, providing both fresh water and another natural defense against invaders. The river also serves as a key trade route for goods coming from the southern prairies.
