Issue 5: Mutant Madness
General Summary
We open with Valor taking a nice nap on Heathcliffe. He began dreaming about the Crystal Conjuress fighting Dabu the Dark. When he awoke, he found a small crystal statue of Stratham Station had fallen from its shelf and cracked. Taking this as an omen, he sought out the other New Guardians.
Meanwhile, Hierophant awoke from his coma and wrote some notes to his protege Typhon . Typhon took it upon herself to find the villan Sovereign. But first she got a call from Valor about his dream. Searcher was luckily on hand, and the trio headed out to the train station to see what was going on.
The team explored the outskirts of Stratham and everything seemed pretty chill, but before long screaming ensued. Typhon found the FEMA team in charge of the refugee camp that had sprung up in the station. Searcher tore off some doors. Valour smashed through the glass dome at the top of the station and quickly found that the fuss was coming from below.
The lower platforms were empty...except for a mutant ambush! The very safe mutants who were harassing the Truefolk (New Guardians Issue 4: The Polygon). A large tripod mounted laser blasted Valor off his steed. Typhon and Searcher cobbled together a translator, revealing that the mutants had already taken prisoners...for FOOD! The trio quickly routed the mutants. The tunnels underneath were overgrown, like the jungle was encroaching on the city at an accelerated rate. The team quickly gave chase to rescue the emperiled citizens.
On the other end of the tunnel they found themselves in the jungles of The Polygon once again. Searcher was able to use his overdriven biology the find the footprints of their quarry. They tracked the target to a mutant citadel on the far end of the jungle. In the center of the fortress was a large cage with the stolen humans.
Typhon entered stealth mode and found a nice recharging station to explode as part of a distraction. But his chargest exploded too soon, and he found himself face to face with Cryxus: albino mutant and chief of the mutants.
Meanwhile, Valor and Searcher used the fracas to rescue the civilains, including Gail Jordan Gordon, star reporter! She insisted they retrieve her recording equipment, and Valor quickly found himself roped into helping. They blasted their way into a nearby tent, knocking out two mutants, and fled. At this point, Searcher had loaded the terrified citizens onto Heathcliff, who flew them away to safety.
Back at the center of camp, Typhon challenged Cryxus to one on one combat. Surpringly, Cryxus accepted! Typhon did some crazy Kungfu, knocking Cryxus to the ground. Cryxus leapt back up, summoning mighty whirlwinds to create a dust cloud surrounding them. Typhon decided to jet, flying away from the battle. The trio reunited and returned their wards to the city.
Back at Stratham Station, the team used their collective strength to collapse the tunnel to the jungle, preventing future encursions. Typhon harassed the FEMA head some more, encouraging them to move the refugees to Stone Tech Stadium. The team gave some comments to Ms Gordon before returning to their base.
Searcher disappeared into the timestream once again.
