Church of Chiseled Stone

The group of deities worship by the Dwarves. To the dwarves themselves, it is known as the Church of Chiseled Stone.

Divine Origins

Worship of the dwarven gods dates far back into the Age of Creation, as Sartos was among the earliest of gods to emerge from Ygg, the World Tree. With the creation of the dwarves, the church was quickly formed to extol the greatness of the dwarven forefathers.

Cosmological Views

Dwarven history is incredibly well recorded. According to earliest accounts, after his emergance, Sartos aided Yea in the construction of the world and its mountains, especially its caverns.

Worship

Basic worship in the church includes a dwarven priest and his procession speaking before a crowd, parsing is words in between strikes on a holy anvil.   More devout followers of a specific member of the pantheon will partake in other specific rituals. Those who venerate the king of the pantheon, Urûr spend holy time working on or under a mountain, in some sort of mining or lumbering operation.   Those who primarily follow Sartos often emulate the traditional cermony, striking a small anvil while reciting prayers to Sartos.   Those who worship Ingitum heat the head of a work or battle hammer, preferably in a holy forge, before wiping of the soot with a special cloth.   Those who worship Harung meticulously record the events of each day, and once fullof a months writing, send the records of these books to a library of Harung.   Those who worship Herthicara work to chisel holy runes, typically over an archway or other egress point.   The followers of Kìlf sing songs to the glory and attractivness of Kilf whilst drinking heavily and praising freedom.   The duergar, the followers of Gûnter, often work to study the arts of others, dwelling on how they can acquiesce the design for themselves.

Granted Divine Powers

The Church of Chiseled Stone grants many powers, many of which pertain to crafting.   As the king of the pantheon Urûr is one of the most worshipped of the dwarven gods. Powers granted by him include power against creatures flying in the air, the ability to teleport to higher vantage points, divine mastery of dwarven pelletbows, the ability to boom your voice out for miles, and the most coveted power, held only by the current King of the Dowan Hold, the ability to control and ancient dwarven Sky Clave, a floating fortress.   Sartos, the progenitor of the pantheon and the grandfather of the dwarves, grants protection from magical weapons, greater proficiency with dwarven weapons, the blessings of ancestral spirits, the ability to summon stone golems, transforming skin into protective iron, and the ability to imbue holy attacks with acidic damage.   Ingitum, the god of dwarven smiths, grants followers divine crafting abilities, able to forge even magical weapons with relative ease. Other abilities include the ability to imbue crafted weaponry with a spark of life, allowing it to move on its own.   Harung, the keeper of dwarven history, grants his followers the ability to detect forgeries, create magical scouts out of paper, the aility to commune ith Harung diretly for information about public facilities, the ability to master the poer of scrolls, the ability to touch a creature and copy thier memories into a book, and the ability to trap an enemy inside its own painful memories.   Herthicara, the dwarven goddess of warriors, grants her divine warriors defense against necromantic spells, the ability to surround themselves with holy blinding moonlight, the ability to heal creatures of thier negative conditions with a touch, the power to channel holy energy into undead foes both to cause them to flee and to reduce thier defenses, and training to hit muiltiple opponents in large butal swings.   Kìlf, the dwarven goddess of ale and sailors, allows her followers to summon spectral copies of themselves, training in combat with sailor implements, such as ropes and tankards, the abilty to intoxicate thse struck by attacks, the ability to create a zone of parley, the ability to heal from alcoholic beverages, and the ability to create watery pits full of sharks to punish the unruy.   The outcast member of the pantheon, Gûnter grants his followers more sinister powers, including greater skill at making forgeries, the ability to project your power as far greater than it actually is, icreased toughness of the skin and a resistance to fire, the abilty to greatly modify spellcasting in Gûnter's name, the ability to infuse minions with dark power, the ability to create duplicates of items, and the ability to transform a weapon into a fascimile of the Gûnter's hammer, the Hammer of the Duergar King.

Sects

A majority of the Church woship the enterity of the pantheon alltogether, with the exception of Gûnter who was long cast out of the pantheon for his cheating ways. Now, the only dwarves who worship him are the duergar, who turned to him to survive in the dark depths of the Underrealm.
