Arnek Pearlmaster
Arnek Pearlmaster was born in a wealthy of the Pearlmaster lineage, his father Ernest Greenhill Pearlmaster made a living by trading highly valuable jewellery with pearls in their design which is how Arnek got his last name, however, they aren't affiliated with the Pearl Trading Company.
Arnek however, was not content with living in his father's shadow, and he decided early on that he was going to achieve something much bigger than him, to become much wealthier than him. So he started praying to Tomi the World Smith god of trade and wealth, afterall many of the most successful merchants (including his father) followed him, some even getting his blessing and through that being able to perform magic which was what Arnek wanted to achieve. This was of course not a functioning idea considering worshipping Tomi often comes as a result of being a merchant and not the other way around.
After months of praying and sacrificing to him, he got no answer and he eventually gave up on getting his blessing although still continuing to worship him. He then sought magical power through other means as he still liked the idea of magic. He started to buy books about simple magic and after 3 months he learned his first spell, an illusion based spell.
One night he had an argument with his father and he ended up leaving the house to get away from the whole thing. He headed to the tavern where he had spent a few days drinking with his friends but never alone. Once there he did something he had wanted to do for some time but his friends were not as excited, he decided to start gambling. Specifically, a game of dice which was a very popular game among the common folk of Virtuous. He joined a group of 4 strangers who were playing in a corner, when asked about his name he realized it would be a bad idea to give them his real name as the name “Pearlmaster” was way to well known and would make him a big target for scams and possibly even robberies so he decided to go with Glim.
After playing a couple games and constantly losing he went back home. After that he visited the tawern to play several times a week, stealing his fathers money as he kept losing more and more money. One night when he once again was playing with the group he saw one of the players who happened to be the one that won the most cast a spell before revealing his dice, again winning, this was when Arnek understood what he could do with magic. With a new group he started winning more and more as he mastered the art of illusion magic, using it excessively during each game. Several months passed and everything was going quite good for Arnek until one day his father realized that Arnek had been stealing from him, at this point it was up to 4390 gp, no longer just for gambling but also for purchasing expensive spells and equipment. After taking Arneks spellbook he kicked him out and Arnek who was furious stopped using his real name and swore to only go by Glim.
Although this name didn't last long after soon joining a group of Adventurers he got stuck in court from a foolish act the group did in setting a building of worship to Kyojin Bougan Yogsha down. He then had the name Glim well to known and switched over to Yelric paired with the faceless mask he won in a bet he took on a new form allowing him to go on unrecognized to the world.
