The continuation of Session 79 - The Silver Swords.
Location - Gantul Hamlet, near Chison Keep in the Kingdom of Kanday.
Part 1 - Evidence of Foul Deeds
The party makes their way to the hamlet of Gantul and talk with local Priest of Peoni, Frier Remy. Remy remembers Erdin visiting about a week ago on his way to visit Ida's cottage which is about ten minutes' walk along a quiet trail in the forest. They also learn that Erdin has not returned, and also a small group of rough-looking men was seen traveling along with the same trial a day earlier.
The Heroes find Ida's cottage. She and her husband have not seen Edrin, but remember spotting a gang of men, with dogs and a wagon, a week ago. Carefully backtracking and examining the trail, they find arrows embedded in a tree and wagon tracks leading off into the woods toward some old ruins.
Part 2 - The Rescue
The ruins are occupied by what looks like bandits with war dogs. In a cage is an unconscious and very sick man, presumably Erdin Toradas, and another man is nearby reading from some sort of occult book. The party attempt to trick their way in, but their deception is obvious with Acheron and Quazzy easily spotted trying to hide behind a tree. The men attack, and the man with the book starts some sort of ritual. Quazzy immediately recognizes that this is a clumsy attempt at a demon summoning. She believes this man has little occult knowledge and the ritual will probably fail. The Bandits and Dogs put up a good fight, but eventually fall one by one. Sabretooth knocks the Dogs unconscious, and one of the bandits is captured. Quazzy creates an impressive and dramatic magical deception. Conjuring a field of darkness, she steps out, pretending to be a magical creature, summoned by the shocked man. Suitably intimidated, he immediately surrenders. He is Bordur Pildesen, a Lexigrapher and Mapmaker from the City of Aleath, who has the shop next to next to Erdin's Toymaking business. He confesses everything. He has been poisoning Erdin, and his late wife for years, as an act of revenge. He loved Erdin's wife and jealousy conspired to trick him into leaving the city so he could have him ambushed. He wanted to summon a Demon to kill this former exorcist. He also confesses to faking many of his maps and being a drunkard.Part 3 - The Law
The party takes their captives to the nearby Bailiff and two trials are carried out. The surviving Guard is found guilty of Banditry and hanged.
The second trial, of Bordur Pildesen, for witchcraft, is held by Priests of the Church of Larani supported by the Church of Peoni. He pathetically confesses everything and is found guilty. Quazzy makes an impassioned speech, explains he was an incompetent not a true summoner of demons, then calls in favors with the Church of the Goddess Peoni. She manages to have the sentence commuted to a severe fine, likely to bankrupt Bordur. She has plans for this man.
Location - Abbey of St Andrada, near Kostim Manor Kingdom of Kanday.
