Session 087 - Treachery and New Friends

General Summary

5^th to 25^th of Kelen (Third month of Spring) 722TR

The story so far

Sabretooth's Ivashu companion Smeg was killed by Priests of Sarajin who were attempting to disrupt diplomatic negotiations between the Kingdom of Kaldor and the Thardic Republic. Sabretooth has called on his creator, and God Ilvir to lead him to a new sidekick.

Meanwhile, Avon is deeply involved in protecting two opposing Senators in the Thardic Republic Embassy. He is actively playing one against the other looking, for an opportunity to rise in rank and influence.

Part 1 - Introducing Chameleo.

While meditating, Sabretooth hears the distress calls from an Ivashu. He leads the party into the wilderness for the better part of the day, finding a small web filled gully. Trapped within the webs is a broken-down wagon and two human forms encased in webs. Using a torch he clears a passage.

Suddenly out of the wagon and corpses, swarms of spiders emerge. As the party starts to disperse the tiny monsters, a giant spider with sharp barbs for legs breaks out from the earth and leaps onto the heroes. Avon and Sabretooth are both severely injured, however eventually, the arachnids are destroyed.

Entrapped in the webs is a Knesh Seka a.k.a the Night Hunter. This small nocturnal Ivashu feeds off forest vermin, and its hide is covered with fine glass-like fibers, which change in color, giving it chameleon-like ability. It also can spit purple venom into an opponent's eyes. Sabretooth names him Chameleo.

Part 2 - The Dinner Party.

After returning to the City Avon, accompanied by Acheron and Sabretooth, escorts Senator Ryburn Elernin to Lady Cheselyne Hosath's reception. It is a small event filled with ranking members of the nobility and upper class. While Avon mixes the Kingdom's elite, Sabretooth and Acheron are sent to the kitchen with the servants.

Avon continues his charming of Lady Cheselyne and her daughters, Cheselyne the Younger and Merela. He is so successful that Lady Cheselyne views him as a rising star in the Republic and takes him aside for a few words. She would be happy to support him in any future senatorial ambitions he may have provided that he reciprocates with votes in the Senate as needed.

Later that night, Lady Cheselyne and Senator Ryburn retire for more discussions. Acheron skillfully sneaks away from the kitchen and up to the window, overhearing their conversation. Senator Ryburn boasts that his father, Marshal Kronas, who controls three of the Republics' Legions, expects that once he pacifies the Tulwyn Barbarian tribes will be in a position to force the Senate to name him King or Emperor of Tharda. Ryburn expects to be his heir. Lady Cheselyne and the Senator then discuss and agree on marriage to Cheselyne's eldest daughter, Cheselyne, the Younger.

However, what interests Acheron more is Senator Ryburn's stray comments that his father expected to receive an ancient and powerful magical sword. Acheron suspects that this may be the demon-possessed sword that the party prevented the Company of Dead Men from acquiring and later were involved with its exorcism.

Part 3 - Ice Wolves Assassins.

Over the next two weeks, Avon continues to attach himself to the Senators, providing assistance and security. During one escorted rendezvous between Cheselyne, the Younger, and Senator Ryburn, an assassin strikes. Another Priest of Sarajin from Clan Maael, protected by two Thugs, summons huge White Wolves. The Heroes and Senator Ryburn, who surprisingly proves to be a brave and able warrior, quickly kill their opponents.

Part 4 - Diplomatic Resolutions.

The Senators continue their negotiations with the Kadorian Crown, and a Diplomatic agreement is reached. Senator Ryburn proposal that the Thardic Republic can station a military base at Trobridge Inn narrowly defeats Senator Zanek Musbern more moderate proposals.

Both Senators thank Avon for his assistance, and the embassy returns to the Republic.

In the wagon covered by webs are a number of rabbit hides, Potion of Poison and Psychic Resistance as well as a strange Rabbit's Foot Pendant (claimed by Acheron).
