Hamis Keakas
Hamis Keakas is a Half-elven man who originally hailed from the grand city-state of Waterdeep. He grew up in the slums of the Field Ward, being the son of a poor elven barmaid; he never knew his father, who ran out on his mother before he was born. Throughout his childhood he worked with his mother at the Endshift Tavern, a run down establishment that was clearly accustomed to the lowborn outcasts that frequented it. It was here that he had his first interaction with the City Guard, as the tavern was popular among a small group of off-duty officers. Hamis would often watch them, and listen in as they shared stories of grandiose adventures and dangerous patrols with him. They were likely exaggerated, but they filled a young Hamis with wonder, and set him on his path to joining the City Guard.
As a young adult, Hamis was accepted into the regiment. Because of his status as a half-breed, life was difficult in Waterdeep, and the City Guard was no different. He was often treated as an outsider, never truly being accepted by his peers. This didn’t particularly bother Hamis; he had spent most of his life alone, and had grown accustomed to remaining silent watching the people around him. However, it had a lasting effect on his career in the Guard.
Much of Hamis’s life was spent in the regiment of the Waterdhavian City Guard, and the work proved to be far less fantastic than Hamis anticipated. Although he worked for so long, he experienced very little upward mobility in rank. Hamis assumed this was because of his Half-elven descent. However, he continued working diligently until his mid-40’s, when he was attacked by a band of goblins during a patrol. During the battle, Hamis’s thigh was pierced by a poison arrow. His life was spared, but he lost his leg in the process.
In the aftermath of the attack, Hamis retired from the Guard. He spent much of this time practicing sewing, a skill he had dabbled with during his young adulthood but never mastered, and eavesdropping on passersby in his local tavern. It was here that he first heard of Mythrite from a pair of traveling merchants. In an uncharacteristic moment of spontaneity Hamis approached the group and offered payment to join their caravan.
Hamis came to Mythrite in hopes of profiting off of the rapidly growing population of the mining boom town. Now an older man, he runs a small tailor shop, where he sells and repairs clothing for the people of Mythrite. He lives a monotonous, schedule lifestyle, a lasting effect of his military career, and remains ever observant of the people around him. Because of this, he is often aware of the ongoings and inner dealings in Mythrite. He is a tailor by day, but those in the trade of information find their way to Hamis’s shop as well.
