Merave Truevale
In her days before Mythrite, Merave Truevale found herself always in some form of trouble. Her deft hands always seemed to find themselves in someone else's pockets and when found out, she never backed away from a fight. Her unassuming small stature has always left her opponents overconfident as Merave is a firm believer in the bigger they are the harder they fall but when the law got involved she fell right with the rest of them. Her father always told her crime was a means of survival but as she got older the shackles felt even less inviting and she began to question the wisdom in his words.
She had decided not to end up like her father, a corpse in some jail cell in Waterdeep, not long before an odd bunch from a Miners guild asked her to be the Town Guard Captain of a fresh mining town. A chance to be on the other side of the law isn’t something most cut-purses are presented with and she wasn’t going to question whatever divine intervention led her to this opportunity. Merave was smart enough to know she was only chosen due to her unsavory past and the belief that she would be easily bribed or blackmailed into doing whatever the miner’s guild asked. This was meant to be a fresh start for her though and she vowed not to be as easily corrupted as she may have been in her youth.
Merave had no idea what was in store for her as a boom-town like Mythrite seemed to always have a new crisis on the horizon. She rarely had a moment to rest with the constant feuds between the craft Guilds and their respective workers and the constant threat of monsters looming on the town’s borders.
Merave has always been social and has quickly formed bonds with her peers. Now it’s quite different though as instead of coordinating small heists she is in charge of tasking the entire town guard. The job has translated surprisingly well as her natural comradery, originally forged in various Eronian taverns, has inspired her fellow guards to rally around her. She has so far tried to keep them from getting too close for fear of her secret past but her true nature is bonding over an ale and she feels lonely in her new role as while everyone respects her they look to her as a superior.
Despite the respect of her peers she still has to win over the townfolk. They fear the unchecked nature of the guard’s power and cry of favoritism for the guilds that pay the bulk of their salaries. She knows she still has her work cut out for her but she’s determined to not waste this fresh start.
