Session 66: For A Wizard Named Silence, He Sure Talked A Lot

General Summary

Argon arrived in the morning to meet the party, with items that could cast Disguise Self on the wearer (for a total of three times), instead of the more powerful Alter Self. This meant that the alterations for the party would be illusion instead of transformation. Millie was not given a hat because she was already human, and since most citizens of the Oleander Throne are human, she would not need to alter her appearance. Millie did, however, request that someone transform themselves into her twin, because she had always wanted a twin.    Bolvaic thought of a Harengon and transformed into a Harengon instead of a human. Zadoc told Argon to fetch a hat that "only let the wearer transform into a human" and with the "new" hat, Bolvaic was able to transform into a human. Donk used his hat to transform into Millie's twin, however, due to the limitations of the hat, he transformed into a 3 and a half foot tall version of Millie. It was determined that it would be best if Donk did not go with the party.   Zadoc and Ilbryen hid their half-elven features, while Bolvaic and Arelmeni transformed into more human like versions of themselves. Tiiarjead's transformation was the most dramatic, transforming into a human with golden hair. Due to the limited charges, the party only had two hours before their illusions would wear off. With their new forms, and their forged citizenship papers, Argon led the party to the Lighthouse.    The party posed as Artificers accompanying Argon, stating that there were issues with the materials they were receiving. They were taken to the Wizard Silence, who listened to their story and the party were able to convince him that they were not only there because of the issue with the materials, but that they were sent as part of the Archmage Hollow's pre-arrival team to make certain that everything was running well. The wizard Silence was expecting Archmage Hollow within a day or two for him to demonstrate both his capture of the Leviathan, but also the procurement of magical materials.   The party asked for a tour, which Silence proudly gave them. They were shown that the base building that the Lighthouse extends from is a barrack and research center for the Oleander wizards stationed there. While there were non-wizards present, the vast majority here were wizards all working on the current issue of the Leviathan and its capture and holding.    The party were eventually led to the top of the Lighthouse where Silence ordered the wizard Injury to open the Maelstrom to proudly show off his work. When the ritual atop the Lighthouse was finished, the Maelstrom opened and the party could see into the base of the Maelstrom where the water had receded. Within that area was the glamoured form of the Leviathan, bound in manacles and pierced in the side with a great iron weapon. He seemed to be in great pain and as he bled from his wound, when it fell and touched the ground, it transformed into coral--the material that most of the magic items the party had found in this area to be made from. The party spoke with Silence, finding out more information as he proudly talked about what he accomplished. They had drawn out the Leviathan and pierced its side with the iron lance attached to a ship's bow, weakening the creature and leading it to be caught in a circle of magical plinths that both weakened him and did not allow him to leave. He stated that the coral that he bleeds has a magical nature to it and it is being used to craft many weapons and arms from the Artificers with a near boundless production rate.    Injury closed the Maelstrom and the party told Silence that there were issues with the coral, that it was corrupting the magic. This was the first that Silence had heard of such and committed himself to investigate and resolve it so that it would not be an issue when the Archmage Hollow arrived. He continued his tour and took the party to the storage area, were some of the coral had been used to create items of magic. He gave each person a coral ring that granted them an hour of water breathing, and by appearances, he had scores, if not hundreds of such rings. Millie stole three additional rings.   With their time running out, the party returned to their ship, telling Silence that they would return in the morning.   The party, armed with the rings, went out to investigate the Leviathan's prison underwater. As they neared the area, they saw the five plinths encircling the area, binding the Leviathan to it. The party also detected that it was a ward that would not let fey pass out from it, and they were uncertain if the half-elven fey ancestry would restrain them or not.   As they continued to investigate, Zadoc hear a voice in his head, having the connection to the Leviathan from his paladinhood. The Leviathan told Zadoc of his capture and had a surprisingly gentle and soothing voice. He did not know if the iron lance bound him, but it weakened him since it was iron and still piercing him. Zadoc told him of Acacia and the kudzu reaching out to them. The Leviathan chuckled and said that it sounded like something she would do. Zadoc promised to free the Leviathan and the Leviathan shared his name to Zadoc--Narahm.    The party returned to the inn to plan for the next day. They had no intention of showing up at the Lighthouse as they said they would to Silence. Arelmeni mentioned the idea of attacking some of the Oleander forces keeping the kudzu back, as perhaps a breach of it would draw the wizards there to deal with it, hopefully lessening the number of guards needed. The party asked Argon to try to come up with something that could destroy or disable the plinths and he said that he would try. With that, the party set to wait until the next morning to assess their options.
