Professor "Flashbang" Layla
Brilliant but dizzy, Professor Layla (also known as Professor Flashbang) teaches Chemistry/Biology at Houndsmoth Manor. She's a talented biologist that leaves her students in awe of her knowledge of the biological systems of every living being on Earth. While also leaving them to find cover during her chemistry labs, due to her imprecise calculations and results-based mindset.
Layla's mindset represents the lack of actual control we have over our environment. And trying to replicate nature and its processes has exciting rewards and explosive consequences.
What makes Layla stand out from most of her colleagues is the affability she has with her students.
Most of the teachers at Houndsmoth are far removed from their students, giving off an air of superiority and detachment.
However, Layla is one of the few teachers whose students feel safe to approach her with questions and their curiosities. In fact, Silas Yamane approaches Professor Layla in Season 1 and asks indirectly if she could make something that could calm down/control his dog to obey his commands.
Her knowledge of plant life and the biological processes of all kinds of animals, provided by Outdoor Studies teacher Professor Irwin, astounds her students. However, her demonstrations of these processes in a synthetic lab become rather "explosive" (hence why students call her Professor Flashbang).
To the point where her TA: Fred Hopper runs her Chemistry labs, teaching his classmates more about chemistry than Layla.
Her easy-going nature makes few enemies out of her students and professors, or seeks to make enemies out of anyone else.
However, in Season 2, after taking away her Chemistry class and giving it to Fred. Layla's convinced that Headmistress Valentine helped Professor Neri steal her last specimen (along with her research notes) regarding the near-extinct and extremely-invasive Blackthorn plant.
During Houndsmoth:
In this course, Layla teaches her students about the biological processes of Earth's flora and fauna through observation and explaining them through chemistry. The students in this program are ones chosen to be researchers, botanists, chemists, lab technicians & environmentalists by Mr. Houndsmoth.Layla's mindset represents the lack of actual control we have over our environment.
